I wrote a post on Managing Unknowns in web engineering for the @humanmadeltd blog: some ideas on progressively narrowing down big unknowns into workable size chunks.

@adamwwolf No idea if there's a name for this, but I've seen teams use comments that intentionally fail linting for this purpose. I'm also curious if there's a term for this or established practices around it.

Is there a name for the idea of a magic token that can't be merged/deployed/whatever?

@rechelon I'll have to go back and reread that with a critical eye. My takeaway from it was more "pay attention to social capital and interpersonal power dynamics, not just organizational structure" than pro-authority... But I haven't read the text in a long time.

The Tyranny Of Structurelessness is just as terrible and easily refuted a text as On Authority. It's actually quite amusing that the post 2016 wave of online tankies only cite the latter, when authoritarians had previously preferred to cite the former at us for decades.

I love how an authcom wrote a shitty piece denouncing the popularity of anarchism in the feminist movement in the 70s and it has ended up in the everyday vernacular of startup and crypto bro insight porn.

@EmilyGorcenski There's also a distinction between a "You" that can include the speaker - "when you do this thing", and a "Y'all* that doesn't - "when Y'ALL do this thing".

@EmilyGorcenski I've always called it the "Boss's 'We'*. Taking credit for the success but not accountability for the process.

@jshbz There was an interesting conversation on my work slack recently about how remote working tools disrupt this style of communication. Like zoom muting/unmuting or highlighting the speaker making interjections more interruptions than encouragements.

@elizabotking Guess it's different for uncle/aunt though, since those are letter signs.

@elizabotking I'll check with my partner who's learning ASL. Often the gender neutral signs can be approximated by making your hand position about half way between the "male" and "female" signs, if the sign is still intelligible.
