One operator alone flies a fleet of 15 balloons out of the valley. Morning patterns are so reliable that every flight launches at sunrise and every flight is on the ground before afternoon thermals arrive. Fifteen balloons a day, seven days a week, for three decades. This backyard landing happened on the morning the pattern failed. Calm air, declining fuel, a basket of 13 strangers, no sideways option available. The pilot aimed for the street and missed by a backyard. In an aircraft whose one control surface is the weather itself, that is an excellent landing. Zero injuries. Zero property damage. 13 people walking out a stranger's gate with a story for life.
