Connor Hamilton gives up a grand slam in the first inning. Vanderbilt trails Louisville 4-0 before even stepping up to the plate. Ouch.

Ultimately I think he decided to put his “feel” for the game to the side and go with the analytics. It was a shirt week for Fen, all year he’s started to really struggle in the 6th inning, and he wanted the L/L matchup. I’m not defending it, but I believe this is the “why”. Also, he had been barreled up a few batters in a row. I would have 100% left him in, but that’s me from the cheap seats.

Too many people jump on this app and overreact, use hyperbole, etc… Obviously you can do that, I have no issues there, but I’m more interested in having the nuanced conversations you mentioned. I think it’s fair to communicate frustrations, ask questions about decisions, roster construction, etc… but I prefer to do it in a way that allows for dialogue. A lot of folks are just to emotional and exaggerative on here for me. And their expectations are unreasonable and unrealistic.

It seems the possibility of having a nuanced conversation about the Vanderbilt baseball season has completely flown the coop.

@GoogsMc Here is my nuanced conversation starter: This years team addressed some of the issues we had complained about, namely the power on offense. This team regressed significantly as far as pitching goes. Even without injuries, this isn’t an SEC staff.

@twentysidesmatt I’m hoping Hamilton and Schlote can make a big step next year too. All this experience this year should really help them moving forward. I think Schlote will end up being great.

@GoodTimesArie Agreed! Need a few big portal pitchers. Not sure if Nye will back or not. I think he will be. If Nadeau, Stillman, and Baird can make that freshman to sophomore leap, then our pitching staff should be back in a big way.

@VandyBackers @aaronfitt @11point7 @d1baseball The RPI will likely be too low. They will need to win Tuesday and take 5 out of 6, plus at least 1 or 2 in the SEC tournament. Winning 4 out of 6 isn’t going to cut it with an RPI in the 50’s or 60’s.

Yeah, I don’t like to assume what could have or would have happened. The bottom line is that it didn’t work out. Fen is your guy all year, your toughest competitor, and the bullpen is trash at best. He played the L/L matchup and it didn’t go his way. It’s just hard to justify going away from your guy for an unreliable bullpen arm. Especially when he’s given up one run and he’s on pitch 71. Also, he gets barreled up often because he pitches to contact a lot, so I don’t think that’s a great point.

@GoodTimesArie Yes he had struck the guy out twice, but he had mowed down the others that had barreled him up as well previously. If he doesnt go get him, there is no guaranteed the same situation doesnt happen

My take on Corbs lifting Fennell last night.... Fenny was pitching on short rest. There were ??s in the midweek if Corbs was thinking about holding him back to Friday. 4 of the last 7 hitters had barreled him up. I would have gone to Seiber in that spot instead of Schultz.

Zane Adams was masterful with 6 shutout innings while Ashton Crowther tossed three shutout frames in a 5-0 @AlabamaBSB victory. Tide right back into the hosting mix - a sweep would be massive. Not feeling good at all about @VandyBoys in the postseason discussion at all. REALLY needs to win the finale + go crazy the final two weekends. Lengthy streak is very much in jeopardy.
