No Japanese person forgets Hiroshima. No Japanese person forgets Nagasaki. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to look at an American kid, student, tourist, or friend living today and aim 80-year-old hatred at them. Some people see that and say, “Japan is just bowing down to America.” No. We simply don’t mistake endless hatred for pride. Remembering the past and being ruled by the past are not the same thing. And if you can’t even understand something that basic, maybe that’s why your country is still stuck behind.
