Wolfram credits a “Kyot the Provençal” as a source for certain aspects of the content of Parzival. I suspect that this Kyot may be an allusion to the Picatrix, Arabic name “Ghayat al Hakim” or “Khayat” which was introduced into Spain via the Arabic world in the 13th century and brought back alchemical, neoplatonic, and magical ideas into Western Europe. “The source to which Wolfram attributes his version of the legend is not Chretien’s, but that of an otherwise unknown poet, Kyot of Catalonia, who he declares discovered in Toledo the manuscript of a heathen [Mohammedan] alchemist and astronomer named Flegitanus. It was from this source that he had derived his knowledge of the grail, not as a vessel but as a stone carried from heaven by the neutral angels who had sided neither with Lucifer nor with God. This particular interpretation comes from German tradition and influenced Wolfram von Eschenbach’s Parzival highly esoteric epic Parzival where the Grail fell from heaven during the fall and was kept by “neutral angels.” Marsilio Ficino referenced the neutral angels and associated them with the stars and planets.

Funny enough, the main source of alchemical information was supposedly the Emerald Tablets of Thoth, which fell from the sky as glowing green meteors over Atlantis. And according to some occultists, the emerald meteors actually fell from Lucifer’s crown when he fell from heaven!
