Eliminate? Is this poor choice of words or naked intent? SC order in no way allows anyone to eliminate strays. Even for rabid dogs procedure has to be followed. I hope SC/HC takes note of this.

@BhagwantMann You and Punjab govt will be in contempt of Hon. Supreme Court for this ‘massive campaign to eliminate stray and killer dogs’. Kindly read the order before any knee jerk govt level decision. Reproducing the exact wordings of the order. Please read and understand - ‘subject to due assessment by qualified veterinary experts and STRICTLY IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS of the PCA Act 1960, the ABC Rules, 2023 and other APPLICABLE STATUTORY PROVISIONS, take such measures AS MAY BE LEGALLY PERMISSIBLE, including euthanasia in cases involving rabid, incurably ill or demonstrably dangerous/aggressive dogs, so as to effectively curb the threat posed to human life and safety.’ Since ABC Rules do not permit euthanasia of Rabid or aggressive dogs, the order effectively allows euthanasia of ONLY incurably ill and mortally wounded dogs. NO DOG other than mortally wounded and incurably ill, is legally permitted to be euthanised. @jsaideepak @Iyervval @PTI_News

Rounding up a million dogs into non-existent shelters isn’t a solution -it’s panic. Science has the answer: sterilise, vaccinate, release. ABC works. It reduces populations humanely, cuts rabies, and respects life. Courts should back evidence, not fear. The good news is that an earlier, more balanced SC bench had directed that stray dogs be released back into their territory after sterilisation and vaccination — so there IS precedent for the humane ABC approach within the courts themselves. #compassionforanimals

I have formally written to the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India regarding Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann public mischaracterisation of the Supreme Court’s order on stray dogs. The SC order permits action only in specific legally defined cases involving rabid, incurably ill, or demonstrably dangerous dogs after veterinary assessment and under law. It does NOT authorize a blanket mass elimination campaign.

Insaniyat wahi hai jo bejubaano ke kaam aaye.

Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Mann has very gleefully ordered mass killing of street dogs in Punjab, misquoting Hon’ble Supreme Court. The Supreme Court’s order nowhere allows this mass elimination of dogs. It appears Punjab CM tweeted this when he was not in his senses, which is not unusual for him. His statements are illegal, inhumane and shameful. In a state where drug mafia, gangsters and criminals are operating freely, killing animals appears to be now the top priority of Punjab government.

(Tweet 1/3 ) - LEGAL NOTICE SERVED TO MR. BHAGWANT MANN We are pleased to learn that Mr. Bhagwant Mann has revised his decision of launching a campaign to exterminate dogs. He has noticeably toned down his language from his last tweet. He was served a comprehensive legal notice cautioning him to adhere to law of the land and the Hon. Supreme Court order and not take any action in contempt of Hon. Supreme Court. The legal notice, by Adv. Poulomi Shukla, NYAARI legal foundation on behalf of our client @PandeyKamna , was served to him earlier today. We remain thankful to the Hon. Court for keeping the PCA Act 1960 and ABC Rukes 2023 as the prevailing law in matters pertaining to community dogs. #saveindiandogs #savepujabdogs
