Congratulations to the 230 students from eight schools who graduated from my Governor's Summer Challenge Program this week. Our National Guard has built something special here: a program that helps kids make the leap from middle school to high school while keeping their minds and bodies sharp all summer long. Power is being restored to the Santa Fe area after lightning struck a transmission line around 1:15pm – knocking out power to about 20,000 customers. The transmission line is back in service and power is being restored to all affected customers.

I’m sad to hear that the Roswell Daily Record newspaper is shutting down after 123 years of proud service to the Roswell community. When local journalism disappears, public accountability — and our democracy — suffer. That's why I signed SB15 during the last legislative session. This measure provides targeted tax credits to help local media outlets hire new reporters and to preserve newspaper printing infrastructure across the state. Sadly, this tax relief may have come too late for the Roswell Daily Record, but I want all associated with the paper to know that we appreciate your service to New Mexicans and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors. Look at this map. Every state but one saw Affordable Care Act enrollment drop when federal funding was cut. New Mexico stepped in to fill the gap — enrollments increased by 14%. Healthcare shouldn't depend on who's in the White House.

This week we lost Wally Funk, a history-making astronaut, born in Las Vegas, New Mexico and raised in Taos. She trained alongside America's first astronauts as one of the Mercury 13, but was denied a seat in space simply because she was a woman. She became the first female FAA inspector and the first female air safety investigator for the National Transportation Safety Board. In 2021, at 82 years old, she finally made it to space aboard Blue Origin, becoming the oldest person ever to do so at the time. Rest in peace, Wally. Every dollar we put into New Mexico True – our state’s tourism marketing campaign – comes back to our small businesses, our local restaurants, our artists, and our main streets. In 2025, nearly 15 years after the campaign began, it hit its highest return on investment ever, translating into billions in impact statewide. #NewMexicoTrue #OnlyInNM

We haven't backed down from demanding answers from the DEA for allowing hundreds of thousands of fentanyl pills into New Mexico communities. I stand with every New Mexican harmed by that decision. We won't stop pushing for accountability.

Santa Fe is No. 1 in the United States for the second year in a row, according to Travel + Leisure. Its culture, creativity, history, food and incredible small businesses make Santa Fe unlike anywhere else. Congratulations to the people who make this city — and New Mexico — so special.

Safer communities don’t happen by accident. Since 2019, New Mexico has raised state police base pay by an average of 55% and created a $50 million recruitment fund that has helped hire more than 400 officers across 29 departments. This year, we also unlocked more than $40 million for a unified public-safety recruitment and retention program supporting law enforcement, fire, EMS, detention and public attorneys.

New Mexico’s clean-energy transition is also an economic development strategy. The state set a goal of reaching 50% renewable electricity by 2030. In 2025, New Mexico surpassed that target five years early, with renewable energy accounting for 52% of electricity generation.

One year after Congressional Republicans passed the so-called “big beautiful bill,” New Mexico is still confronting the consequences of federal cuts that threaten health care coverage, food assistance and basic stability for working families. When Washington put New Mexicans at risk, we stepped up. During the last legislative session, we allocated nearly $100 million to protect families across our state, including: • $30 million to sustain Medicaid expansion coverage for low-income adults • $25 million to help prevent coverage losses tied to federal cuts • $38.1 million to help offset premium increases if enhanced federal tax credits expire • $6.6 million in targeted SNAP support for older adults and people with disabilities New Mexico’s priorities are clear: protect access to care, keep families insured and help vulnerable households put food on the table.

Did you know a simple cleanup song can help a toddler's brain development? On the latest episode of The Early Show with Alax, early childhood music educator Susie George breaks down how music and movement, used every single day, support young kids in ways backed by science. #TheEarlyShow

Meet Bruno, Benson, Bonnie, and Fizz! Anyone who knows me knows I'm an animal lover, and these dogs are why programs like this matter so much. Through our Paws in the Pen partnership with Española Humane, each dog is matched with an inmate trainer at the penitentiary who provides round the clock care and positive training. It's what one Española Humane staffer calls "mutual rescue," where the dogs get the skills to become adoptable and the trainers get the chance to do meaningful work. #PawsInThePen

This morning we celebrated America's 250th birthday with pancakes, fun conversations, and some of the best New Mexicans around. The Santa Fe Plaza has been a gathering place longer than our country has existed. What fitting place to mark the occasion. Happy Fourth of July, New Mexico! #NewMexicoTrue #Somos250
