@EDI_Airport continues to be the slowest at baggage delivery at anywhere I’ve been in the world. The only flight landed and we are all waiting for the last 20 minutes for the baggage delivery to restart (it started and stopped). Are they so short-staffed?

During Easter 1982 the bacteria that causes most stomach ulcers and can lead to gastric cancer was first discovered. Robin Warren (left) and Barry Marshall (right) tried and failed to grow the organism several times. It was only when the agar plates were left in the incubator over the five-day Easter holiday that numerous colonies of the bacterium developed. It became clear that a new bacterial genus had been isolated, which was eventually named Helicobacter pylori. In 2005, Marshall and Warren were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their discovery: bit.ly/3d9oth5

The “freedom of speech” issue in academia is crucial & every university, every professional organisation, every grant-awarding body should explicitly sign up to it. But it doesn’t end there. Short 🧵

As an aside, an unspoken rule in English known as ‘ablaut reduplication’ means we never dally-dilly on the way to a game of pong-ping while the bells go dong-ding. Nor, sadly, do we ever eat a KatKit.
