My dötter and I rescued these little guys from our yard about 3 weeks ago. Our yard seems to have a colony of ground squirrels and we’ve grown to love them. I was on my way to check the pool skimmer basket and almost stepped on one of them as it was not moving. Initially thought our cat scored another mouse, but when I went to pick it up it moved. Brought indoors and tried to syringe some raw cows milk, which it gladly took. Upon research however, learned cow’s milk is too high in protein for these little guys. Once we got it warmed up a bit and moving more, thought it might be worth a shot to place in one of the many tunnels bored throughout our yard in hopes it would be found and cared for by it’s species. Once placing near/inside a hole, we saw another one trying to hide behind blades of grass. We couldn’t bear the thought of them being preyed upon by birds without being able to defend themselves, so we took them both back inside. What a blessing there’s a wildlife rescue home within 15 miles of us that we found. Video and caption are an update on the youngsters that I thought you may enjoy as much as we are… Below, in the comments, are some updates we received along their journey. “Mina and Olive are doing really well and are now down to one formula feeding per day, with the transition to full solid foods coming soon. Mina is still slightly larger at 65 grams, while Olive is steady at 60 grams. They're about halfway to their release weight. It's made my heart very happy to see them thriving.”
