There are two versions of Islam being preached today. One is the Islam taught by Muhammad: protect women and children, care for orphans and widows, honor your parents, be kind to your neighbors, and deal justly with Muslims and non-Muslims alike. The other is a man-made version built on fear, control, and cultural baggage. A version that strips women of their rights, turns basic freedoms into sins, promotes hatred of non-Muslims, justifies child marriage, excuses wife-beating, demands blind obedience, and calls for killing people over blasphemy or apostasy. One version brought me closer to God. The other pushed me away from religion. I chose Muhammad's Islam. And for the first time, I found peace.
