I’ve come to realize that not everything we call “help” actually helps.
If all i do is keep giving someone money every time they’re in need, i might be easing their situation today but not changing anything about tomorrow. Honestly, that kind of help usually turns into dependence.
Overtime since i began to earn, if someone requests for my help and they're people who's worth it, i start asking myself harder questions like "what can this person actually do?" "What are they capable of becoming if they’re given a real chance instead of just another handout?"
Because i’ve seen i understand that opportunity multiplies, skills multiply too. The right connection, the right recommendation, the right push at the right time, those things can change a person’s direction completely. Money alone rarely does that.
That doesn’t mean i won’t give when it’s necessary. Sometimes people just need to survive, and in those moments, you show up however you can.
But i often times do not think it's okay to stop there especially if there's a chance that it will reoccur(family/close friends).
I want my help to mean something long after i’m gone. I want it to build, not just patch. I want it to leave people in a position where they no longer need to reach for help(survival kind) at all.
