@GraduatedBen Why would a pouch have more endothelial effects than smoking?

@RogueScholarPr Some people tolerate cigars or pipe but have strong histamine reaction to cigarettes. Maybe an additive issue?

@GraduatedBen Cigarettes tend to produce more vasoconstriction than cigars or pipe even though you can absorb a lot more nicotine from the latter. I wonder if there’s a way to mitigate this effect

The drug fueled destruction of the local community is evident to all walking the streets of Kensington, Philadelphia. Since I first covered this massive open air drug market and the resulting catastrophe of homelessness in 2017, the city seems to be inadvertently nurturing the despair. But glimmers of hope are found in people fighting to make their streets safe and healthy again. And it starts with shutting down the drug dealers profiting off the pain.

🚨 I was almost taken hostage in Cuba...
I went to Cuba to document the humanitarian crisis and show life under 60+ years of communism and now amid the US blockade. Once I landed, they seized all my cameras except my iPhone and had intelligence agents following me all day until my security noticed their spies tailing us to the hotel where they waited all night for us to come down.
Under communism there is no free speech, and those who show the reality or speak up are imprisoned. Me going without a planned Cuban government guide nearly got me and my security taken hostage or imprisoned.
The situation in Cuba is much worse than anyone knows.

“Sometime last year, my block in Crown Heights started turning orange,” writes Adriane Quinlan. “When the sun set, our windows burned in the apricot tones of the old sodium-vapor lamps.” The shift began with one window, but the spread was swift — up and down the block there were shades of marigold and poppy, Werther’s Butterscotch and Gatorade. From the West Village to Williamsburg, windows became filled with safety-vest orange.
“I bet there is a caveman-brain-related thing where it’s comforting to be in the glow of a fire,” says Dan Goedeker, a director of photography. “Orange is a resistance to the sterility of modern life,” speculates Quinlan’s neighbor Grace Ginsburg, who turns on her orange lamps when she’s done with a day’s work on backlit, bluish screens.
Quinlan observes how we’ve hit peak orange in our lighting: nymag.visitlink.me/zDwEc1

Beautifully written but heart wrenching. Too many small-scale dairy farmers are shutting down. The mass commodities market is not tenable at all. The only way to survive is premium and value-added.
