This is something I’ve looked into. As a regular FPL and fantasy cricket player (Big Bash and World Cup), I have dreamed about a proper PSL fantasy game. I even explored buying the rights and building it myself. The issue is how the PSL prices the licence: Instead of a revenue share, it was a flat fee of about a million dollars just for the license. The upfront cost/fee was so prohibitive that the only viable model for rights holders has been a cheaply made, daily game. The whole fun of fantasy sports is building your squad at the start of the season, managing it with limited transfers, and hoping your cheaper picks hit it big. The Premier League built FPL themselves because they understood the fan engagement value. Cricket Australia structured SuperCoach BBL as a partnership with News Corp, not a cash grab. The people running the PSL just don’t understand the purpose or value of a fantasy league. They just want upfront cash. Doesn’t matter what or even if a product gets made. Waise, I don’t think anyone has even bid for the licence in the past few years.🤔 There is just no interest at that price/model. I think I’m going to write my next article on this: The Case for a Season Long PSL Fantasy Game. Hopefully someone reads it and build it, so I can win it! 😄🙏
