The second of #BEM and @Grafintec's exploration assets is Rääpysjärvi. Extensive surface sampling, including trenching and geophysics, has been undertaken indicating the potential for Rääpysjärvi to be at least as large as Aitolampi at possibly higher grade - samples > 50% TGC.

#BEM and @Grafintec's Finland operations include highly prospective exploration assets. Aitolampi is one of Europe's largest flake graphite deposits hosting 26.7Mt at 4.8% total graphitic carbon and test-work has demonstrated it is amendable to upgrading to battery grade graphite

🔋 Graphite Market Weekly Update: Highlights from May 12 - May 16, 2025 📈 Weekly Summary - In the graphite market this week, @BlackRockMining announced two major developments: the default on its Mahenge Special Mining Licence was lifted, and the company signed two key agreements with TANESCO for power supply - both critical milestones ahead of project financing and construction. Meanwhile, @Evolution_EV1 outlined a new strategic direction, while @Talga_Ltd made progress on the commercial front, signing a binding offtake agreement with Nyobolt for its Vittangi anode material. @SyrahResources has resumed restart activities at its Balama Graphite Operation following a protest-related shutdown, targeting a return to production by the end of June 2025. - For the past week, graphite prices have remained relatively flat in China. - Turning to the wider market, General Motors has unveiled a new lithium manganese-rich (LMR) battery chemistry that delivers 30% more energy density at no added cost. Set for pilot production in 2027, the LMR cells - developed with LG Energy Solutions - aim to cut EV prices, reduce cobalt use, and lessen dependence on China’s battery IP. GM plans to use the cells in full-size electric trucks and SUVs, bringing their costs closer to petrol equivalents. Meanwhile in London, Cobalt Holdings is raising £174 million in a rare IPO to buy up supply from Glencore and build a strategic stockpile of cobalt. Despite current price weakness, the firm expects a rebound as EV battery demand grows. Glencore will take a 10% stake. With cobalt demand forecast to rise 54% by 2031, and DRC export restrictions beginning to bite, the company sees now as the right time to act. In this interview, we share insights on: - What the latest announcements mean for the Mahenge project - Why Black Rock Mining is staying focused on high-purity flake graphite and how that aligns with POSCO’s strategy - The strength of Mahenge’s large flake ratio - Why POSCO selected Black Rock Mining from dozens of global graphite projects - The strategic intent behind POSCO’s recent $277 million investment into domestic spherical graphite production Great to have the opportunity to open up conversations in this space, especially with POSCO International, a major player in the global battery supply chain. youtube.com/watch?v=OQuz1R… General EV Market News GM’s New Battery Tech Could Be a Breakthrough for Affordable EVs General Motors has unveiled a new battery chemistry - lithium manganese-rich (LMR) that offers 30% more energy density at the same cost as existing cells. The move could significantly reduce the price of full-size electric SUVs and trucks, bringing them closer to cost parity with petrol models. The LMR cells will be produced by Ultium Cells, GM’s joint venture with LG Energy Solutions, with pilot production starting in 2027 and full-scale output in 2028. The new batteries use 60 - 70% manganese, 30 - 40% nickel, and just 2% cobalt, reducing reliance on expensive and scarce materials like cobalt while offering a U.S.-developed alternative to China-dominated LFP chemistry. GM says the LMR modules will contain 50% fewer parts than existing Ultium packs, helping avoid the manufacturing delays that previously disrupted EV rollouts. The company plans to tailor battery chemistries across its lineup - LMR for long-range, lower-cost models; NMCA for high performance; and LFP for entry-level EVs. Yhe new technology is also a geopolitical play: by moving away from China-controlled chemistries and patents, GM is aiming to advance U.S. battery innovation and secure domestic supply chains. The development is backed by more than 200 LMR patents held by LG and positions GM to be the first to bring LMR cells to market at scale. wired.com/story/gms-new-… Cobalt firm taps in to electric car boom with £174m London stock market float Cobalt Holdings has announced plans to raise £174 million in a rare London IPO, aiming to build a strategic stockpile of cobalt in anticipation of rising long-term demand for EV batteries. The company will use the funds to purchase cobalt from Glencore, which is also investing $24 million for a 10% stake. While EV growth has slowed in recent months - pressuring cobalt prices and investor sentiment - Cobalt Holdings believes this is a short-term oversupply. CEO Jake Greenberg, who also co-founded uranium vehicle Yellow Cake, sees this as a chance to buy at low prices before demand rebounds. Cobalt is a key component in nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) batteries, used in long-range EVs. Though lithium iron phosphate (LFP) is gaining traction in low-cost models, NMC chemistry remains dominant for performance vehicles. The Democratic Republic of Congo, which supplies ~75% of the world’s cobalt, has begun imposing export restrictions, further tightening supply. Cobalt demand more than doubled between 2015 and 2024 and is forecast to rise 54% by 2031, driven by the EV transition and regulatory bans on combustion vehicles. If successful, this would be London’s largest listing in two years, during a period of IPO drought. theguardian.com/business/2025/…
