Good breakdown of potential problems with the CofE Redress Scheme with @Child_abuse_law Malcolm Johnson and Zahrah Diwan. Will not be easy listening for survivors - but we need to hear it. So do Synod members, all DSAs, all bishops. youtu.be/C-vUVKCSfdo?si…

He’s at war in Iran without congressional authorization. He overthrew Venezuela by force. He threatened to invade a NATO ally. Now he wants to take Cuba and thinks he can do “anything he wants” with it. Where the hell are my Republican colleagues? They took the same oath I did. Every single one of them who stays silent owns this. A Congress that won’t stop a president who answers to no one isn’t a co-equal branch. It’s an accomplice.

Trump: Cuba, it's a beautiful island. Great weather. I will be having the honor of taking Cuba. Whether I free it, take it. I think I can do anything I want with it, if you want to know the truth

J.D. Vance is such a fucking weasel. He has his team leak to Politico that he was skeptical of this illegal war, but he’s completely disappeared from the internet. Where the fuck is he? The most online vice president is just gone at a time when our country is at war. If he opposes what Trump is doing, he should say so publicly. Coward.

@MaggieOliverUK @TMOFCharity Worth pointing out that the govt claims to be implementing the “mandatory reporting” recommendation in the Crime & Policing Bill. They aren’t. They have left out the mandatory bit. The criminal sanction recommended by IICSA is not included. There’s no penalty for not reporting.

The government knows its measure is useless. The Home Office's own Impact Assessment estimates that the rise in child sexual abuse reports to police will be just 0.3%. That's about one extra report per year per local authority. A drop in the ocean.

Amendments have been proposed by @Tanni_GT and others to fix this but there is every sign that that government intends to reject all of them.

The Crime & Policing Bill is being debated in the Lords today. It includes the measure on "mandatory reporting" of child sex abuse. Unfortunately the government has left out the "mandatory" bit. It will not be an offence fail to report abuse. This is not what IICSA recommended.

The senior clergy in @ChurchinWales. including bishops, knew. They knew. And covered it up. Anthony Pierce became a bishop. It's hard to comprehend the culture within which this travesty took place. He is now in prison. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Confidence in the House of Bishops has collapsed. What’s needed now is radical structural change. Not more internal reviews.

@Stephenmevans1 All other clergy would have been suspended immediately. But bishops get the feathered luxury of three weeks of NST inaction. Until the complainant calls the police. Only then does the CofE act.

I pass no comment on the complaint itself, but we need more secular agencies dealing robustly with @churchofengland⁩ safeguarding cases. External scrutiny and a fair process is too often missing. | Bishop of Lincoln suspended following complaint bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

(The C of E is not unique in this but it is its aping of how other, broken institutions, businesses and bodies choose their leaders and the valuing of the same dead principles which have got us into this mess. We’re called to be different!)

Increasingly clear that episcopal leadership in the Church of England is in meltdown and that the Bench is too weak, faithless and corrupt to do anything. CNCs aren’t working, the ‘senior leadership’ system isn’t working, the culture is moribund. The people of God deserve better.
