I just read an incredible paper. These authors went and used sequencing data from the U.K. Biobank and found that a sizable number of people were likely misdiagnosed with a common disease when they really have a rare one. The next part was amazing: They looked at sequencing data for people in clinical trial cohorts and found that several participants were likely misdiagnosed with the common diseases the trials aimed to treat. This misdiagnosis could explain why these participants seemed to get less benefit from treatment! Through more extensive sequencing of the population, we might be able to figure out what's up with clinical trial nonresponders, and we might be able to find and characterize persons who are unusually responsive to different treatments as well. This is bound to be an important paper, so go check it out: nejm.org/doi/full/10.10…
