There are increasing reports, echoed by @AlanBiggs1, that the David Storch consortium has submitted a higher bid for Sheffield Wednesday than Mike Ashley. That creates a dilemma for the administrators. Their legal duty is clear. They must maximise returns for creditors. But football clubs are not normal businesses. The buyer also needs the financial strength to stabilise and rebuild the club. I have said repeatedly that Sheffield Wednesday requires at least £100 million of investment almost immediately. Not over time. Not through hopeful projections. Real capital. Against that backdrop, some of the commentary circulating recently is frankly absurd. Stories of £4 million being spent on the stadium and safe standing at the Leppings Lane end miss the scale of the problem entirely. That kind of money barely scratches the surface of what is required to modernise Hillsborough and rebuild the club properly. Mike Ashley may not be everyone’s preferred owner, but two things are undeniable. He has the cash. And he has the commercial leverage. It is worth remembering that Ashley reportedly explored a bid for Meadowhall last year. If someone with that scale of retail and property experience were involved in the area, it is not difficult to imagine a completely different vision. A modern stadium integrated with transport access, parking and surrounding commercial development across that vast footprint. Whether that specific idea ever happens is beside the point. The point is scale. There is no comparison between a bid backed by real financial firepower and one built on optimism and future promises. Sheffield Wednesday has suffered enough from the latter. For the sake of the long-suffering supporters, one hopes the administrators eventually follow the line often attributed to Churchill: “You can always count on the Americans to do the right thing, after they have exhausted all the other possibilities.” Let’s hope we are close to that moment. #swfc

@davidrichards @AlanBiggs1 Your fan base isnt dormant, its dead. You can't sell out a home derby when the administrators are screaming for support, and the last time you averaged over 30K MOTD was in black and white,

Some questions about why someone like Mike Ashley would want to buy a club like Wednesday. The answer is simple. Premier League valuations are enormous. Take Crystal Palace F.C. Reports suggest the club is valued at £500–£580 million last year. Wednesday is a far bigger historic club with a larger stadium and a huge dormant fanbase. If it were established in the Prem the valuation potential could easily exceed clubs like Palace. That is why investors look at clubs in the EFL / Championship. They are not just buying a football club. They are buying an option on promotion and the valuation uplift that comes with it. Plus, Ashley hasleverage from retail. ref: tbrfootball.com/full-crystal-p….

@civetta Nope. Still think it is shabby to keep fans in the dark. I'm fully aware of how organisations push Companies House to the limit in terms of submissions.

The Sheffield Wednesday interim administration report was due some time ago. Begbies the administrators applied for an extension to 27 February, which has come and gone, still no report. The preferred bidder has walked away from the deal to the surprise of not many. Why the delays? Has the report been sent by second class post to Companies House or was it sent via WhatsApp to a select few? Lack of transparency not fair to long suffering Owls fans.

The most irritating thing about this season as a #swfc fan is the fact the former chairman has walked away from the UK with no consequence. Washed his hands knowing he gets a payout. The only people that have suffered are the players, staff and the supporters. Even worse he had a lot of the money from this years season ticket sales before he ran away. No matter how bad it’s got it’s 50+ years of watching, hoping, enjoying and that will always be there. The owl will rise again. #wawaw @WTIDPOD @VitalWednesday @TWWcast

@BigBertie3 @RobDorsettSky A distressed asset with massive brand value. Worth £30m all day long. Last of sleeping giants out o f the Premier league. Easily achievable to get the club worth £200m-£300m within 5-10 years. 🦉 🦉 🦉

Delayed final offers from some would-be #swfc buyers mean “preferred bidder” status unlikely before the end of this week. Several parties still doing deep dive on the accounts, and some dislike the idea of paying Chansiri £15m as part of the deal. But £30m+ fee still good value.

@IanNort21899483 @AlanBiggs1 @swfc The EFL have taken action. Embargoes and restrictions on players wages are forcing the club to match its outgoings with its income. The real problem is that SWFC fans can't accept they will become a League 1/2 team for years to come
