@GrahamY The low-roaders at the @TheAusInstitute - imagine if their collective mindset was prevailing in the years when our gas industry was developed. I doubt very much it would ever have happened. No fx earned, no $400b invested, no $21b taxes per year, no ~1m direct+indirect jobs...

More Australia Institute BS. They'll stop at nothing to try to destroy the social licence to operate of the oil and gas sector. Private sector companies like Jemena and APA build the pipelines not the governments. But guess who is underwritten by the government - the Australia Institute. Not only don't they pay tax, but if you donate to them you don't pay tax either. Who's rorting the system?
Australia Institute@TheAusInstitute

The oil and gas lobby claims Australian governments take on no risk and pay no upfront costs in developing major energy projects. That narrative doesn’t hold up. Australians are tired of the gas industry not paying its fair share. ✍ Sign the petition: theaus.in/4dilxQl

@edgecrypto79 Sharp response. Confirms my priors. I don't normally attack the "person" but when they're spewing nonsense you know they have no substance.

@GrahamY The gas companies is the answer you are looking for. Even if we took every dollar the Australia Institute ever received it would be negligible compared to the money lost giving our gas away for free.

@GrahamY You are spot on Graham. The #AustraliaInstitute is not liable for income tax on its earnings hiding behind a major tax rort of non-profit status. This status should only be granted to legitimate charities & community organisations.

@EllaCoo55777104 It's not up to 'us' to fix their situation. They have to take agency. Everyone who says they don't is part of the problem.

The bottom two panes say you are wrong. The top two panes say that Greens are most likely to say whatever makes them appear virtuous. 15% say they are uncomfortable spending time with people who openly support Israel, who are the majority of Jews, but 95% say they are open to having Jewish friends.

Reform UK are the most antisemitic party, closely follow by the Tories. The Greens and a LibDems are the least antisemitic, even though the Greens are the most likely to criticise Isreal for its war crimes. The Media are taking us all for fools!

Albanese said today he's throwing 4 billion at remote indigenous housing. that was his answer when asked about that sadistic abduction, and murder and worse, of that innocent child in Alice Springs. Tony Abbott wanted these camps closed down. He wanted them in town, in school and in work. Not kept in filthy remote housing that doesn't last. Albanese and his fellow leftist are the very reason we see this decline and decay of society. Look at the communist countries, that is what Albanese has imported. An utter disgrace. 44 billion a year and for what? High time we stop treating them as indigenous and call them Australian. Enough of the 3 flags. We're sick of it.

Tony Abbott wanted the camps closed down. He said no child should live like that. He wanted them in towns, in school, in jobs. The lefties cried the house down. Now look. Nowhere to be seen. They make you sick.

Gas companies get ALL their MATERIAL PRODUCT FREE then make their sales ABSOLUTELY FREE. Other companies have to buy their material, then produce something from it in a factory they had to build. They have to pay tax on everything from start to finish. Charge them for the material product - it will not grow back, it belongs to the Australian people.

You can't trust the Greens. From ATO data the gas companies involved in these export terminals paid $905 million in tax in 2023-24 alone. We don't have figures for 24-25 or 25-26 but why would they be any less? This dishonesty is about trying to cripple the social licence to operate of the gas industry. It's not about taxes at all.
Penny Allman-Payne@senatorpennyqld

In my hometown of Gladstone there are three LNG export terminals. In the last decade they've sent more than $125 billion of LNG offshore, but they've paid less than a billion in corporate tax combined. The gas companies are taking the piss at our expense. It's time to tax them.

@CricketnBeer Not sure where you get this crap from but it can't even work out what is a foreign owned company. Santos is Australian for example.

A fundamental lesson from my posts these last two weeks on modernization, industrial policy, and development is that development economics should be about understanding why South Korea got rich but Bolivia did not. The current field has largely given up on that question. Sharply identified RCTs on small micro programs are a fine way to publish in the AER and get tenure at a fancy university, but a profession that knows everything about microfinance impact evaluations and almost nothing about industrialization has misallocated its own intellectual capital on a pretty heroic scale. @Ryandally08 So immigrants are a permanent underclass to serve the interests of European Australians with Anglo names like Thistlethwaite? There is a whole lot of underemployment that could, and should, fill the gap. No shame in cleaning hospitals or serving food.

Matt Thistlewaite says Pauline Hanson should stop complaining about mass immigration. “The people cleaning hospitals tonight will be migrants” “The people serving food to kids will be migrants” “One Nation are all about slogans”

While Albanese dithers the adults are in charge in Queensland. New storage and refining for oil. New industries as well. This isn't "green hydrogen" or some other fantasy. It's real and desperately needed now.

The Greens don't want the gas industry to pay more tax they want them out of business. On their own logic that's a lot of things the government will then have to take from Aussies because they won't be able to pay for them.
The Other Side (Australian Vodcast)@OtherSideAus

Confused about the GAS TAX issue? Many people now believe gas companies pay no tax and we're being ripped off by the industry, thanks to a very powerful and clever PR campaign from the Greens. But what's the real story? Our panel tonight debunk all the myths and catchy slogans and show the receipts so you get the full story and can make your own mind up. You MUST see this important episode >>>> youtu.be/Fdcu2CKuYCw (Note to "Punters Politics" fans: please don't write comments like "you're paid by the gas industry!" it's really lame, and wrong. Debate the facts politely with real data, or just don't comment, Thanks! 😉 Our show is open to anyone from the @Greens or @TheAusInstitute or @punterspolitix to come on and debate any time. Just DM us!)
