“Do not be anxious about your life” (Matthew 6:25) . “which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life” (v.27) . “why are you anxious about clothing?” (v.28) . “do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ (v.31) . “do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself” (v.34) . INSTEAD: “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (v.34)

Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men. The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging him on a tree. God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.” (Acts 5:29-32)

The gospel is clear: “Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well.” (Acts 4:10) The gospel is exclusive: “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)

John the Baptist called out to the brood of vipers (and now us): “Bear fruit in keeping with repentance.” (Matthew 3:8) “Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.” (3:10)

Peter preached that Jesus was “delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.” (Acts 2:23) . Two parallel purposes, side by side, both true at the same time. Each with VERY different intentions.

Jesus said—You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. (Acts 1:8) . Us? God uses lowly, common, jars of clay to carry the greatest news in the universe? Incredible.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. (Ephesians 1:3-4)

Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” (John 21:12) . Does anyone else marvel that the resurrected Jesus enjoys eating with his friends? Can I say that my love for breakfast is a godly craving?

The chief priests said: “We have no king but Caesar.” So he delivered him over to them to be crucified. (John 19:15-16) That will not go well for chief. . Jesus said: “Whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 10:33)

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) Show me a man with true peace, I’ll show you a man that takes to heart the things of Jesus.

Jesus said—As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me (John 15:4). I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide (v.16). If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love (v.10) This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you (v.12)

Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. (John 14:23-24) . Obedience is the fruit of the healthy tree.

Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit (John 12:23-24).
