New essay: Beyond Slop Reflections on 6 years making creative AI tools and why the field feels stuck on content production rather than personal expression. We're building molds with dials rather than new clay. On embracing craft, process, and open-ended mediums (with some new demos!) joelsimon.net/beyond-slop

Made an "analog" YouTube book for my kid so she can choose what she wants (from pre-approved list) without being exposed to a thumbnail hellscape. Also automatically cuts her off after x scans

Bluesky has gotten good enough (especially with the third-party 'For You' algorithm) that it is actually a distraction risk for me now. Also lots of interesting protocol experiments over there, if you need a reason to check it out again.

Thinking Tree ⚡ Prototyping thinking interfaces using Gemini 3 in @GoogleAIStudio. The speed of Flash + search grounding is really great for rapidly exploring knowledge in new ways. Made w/ @GrantCuster Realtime screencap w/ sound 🔊

@left_pad braggoscope.com/about might be a good thing to look at i have a VPS as well but still do databases on railway bc it's simple/used to it. but may try someday i've been really impressed by embeddings - planning to build out a note-taking system around them

also looking for advice on how to setup a full text search and/or embeddings for his body of work, simple approach in terms of implementation/cost, speed, etc? would be nice to be able to search across all the markdown files?

If we had it place each voxel directly as data it wasn't as good. What we ended up doing was having it generate code to populate a voxel array. That way it could use for loops and other procedural methods to build out the voxels but in the scene we just placed the final array.

@theflowingsky I think it’s changed it — and I’m still finding/looking for the right new footing. Definitely harder for me to sit down and put two or three weeks into building a side project app than it used to be though.

@nbhdlady i think it's a good critique of why gestural interfaces are exhausting but then also it just looks like a lot of fun "is laser from palm a good selection mechanic, actually?" is something i've thought
