Scammers posing as utilities are using increasingly sophisticated tactics to sound real and create urgency. 📞Calls may appear to come from Grant PUD’s phone number, use realistic hold music or background noise, or reference recent outages, weather events, or account activity. Some scammers stay on the line for extended periods, apply pressure, or claim service will be disconnected within minutes unless immediate payment is made. 🚩A major red flag is being told you must pay right away or lose service immediately. Scam payment requests often involve gift cards, prepaid cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, or peer‑to‑peer payment apps such as Cash App. These payment methods are commonly used by scammers and are nearly impossible to trace or recover. Grant PUD will never demand immediate payment over the phone or ask you to pay using these methods. ⚠️If a call feels rushed, threatening, or just doesn’t seem right, it’s okay to hang up. Protect yourself by calling us back using a known, trusted number to verify your account. 🚁🐟 Taking fish science to new heights This spring, Grant PUD biologists are using helicopters to help track how young salmon and steelhead survive their journey down the Columbia River. About 3,600 specially tagged fish will be safely transported and re‑released as part of a required 10‑year study to ensure high survival rates past Wanapum and Priest Rapids dams. The data helps us confirm that our dams continue to meet environmental performance standards, protecting fish and powering our communities responsibly. 📍 You may see activity related to the study on the river from Rock Island Dam to Priest Rapids Dam through May. Look up and live. Overhead power lines can be easy to miss—especially when you’re focused on the task at hand. Whether you’re using ladders, equipment, or moving long tools, getting too close to an overhead line is extremely dangerous. Always take a moment to look up before you start work and keep yourself and your equipment well away from power lines. If something doesn’t look right, stop and keep your distance. If you see a downed line, stay at least 30 feet away and call 911. After calling 911, call us at 1-800-216-5226 to report the damage. Rain throughout the early morning caused pole-fire outages around the county. From our initial outage total of approximately 800 customers, our crews have restored power to all but 30 total customers in Moses Lake, the Ephrata area and Quincy. Estimated complete restore time is late morning, as poles need to be replaced. Stay far away from any lines on the ground.
