110 RULES: Happy President's Day! Here's a little book I wrote that was hand illustrated by my friend Jeff Moore called 110 Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior in Company and Conversation. These rules were a regular part of colonial curriculum, and this book helped correct historic accounts tracing exactly where they came from. The 110 rules, and the patriots they helped shape, remind us that we need civility and leaders of moral character if a civil society is to avoid the consequences of having neither. It makes a great gift, and it's available now at Feral Creek! SHOP NOW: feralcreek.com/products/georg…

PLURIBUS 250: Roughly 100 years before our nation's founding, my 7th great grandfather, Edward Grantham, purchased land across the river from Jamestown for 1000 lbs of tobacco. The area would become know as Grantham's Reeds where he made turpentine naval stores. He was one of several colonist whose work helped bring more settlers and trade to rapidly growing colonial settlements. Not everyone who migrated to colonial America came for the promise of freedom and liberty. Those who kept allegiances to the King and Church of England sought to govern the lives of settlers in ways that would not withstand the spirit of brewing revolution for better. Edward would soon find himself testing the promise of freedom and liberty, forced to pay court fines for "not going to church" and "entertaining Indians." Edward's story is one of many in our nation's early reckonings with the choices we faced of whether we wanted to continue abdicating our freedom and liberty to the concentrated power of a king and state-imposed religion, or to each other as one independent nation free to choose our own destiny. 100 years later, in an act of revolution, We The People united to answer that question boldly, declaring in 1776 our independence through self-governance as one United States of America. Our nation's motto, E. Pluribus Unum (out of many, ONE), was born in this revolutionary moment and would be placed on our money, buildings and woven into the fabric of our nation's culture. It memorialized for generations to come the core value that built our nation as a reminder of what it takes to defend it. In the 250 years since, We The People fought every single attempt to place government or religious power over the supreme civil liberties and will of the people to chose for themselves. Our victories heralded a united resolve to welcome diverse voices into the growing chorus of our nation's anthem making us an example for all nations. We The People didn't become 250 years old letting power hungry politicians violate our civil liberties so they can pick and chose who the government serves and who it does not. And every single time we flexed our supreme power to remind them who's the boss were the pivotal moments that guaranteed those freedoms for generations to come.

PLURIBUS 250: We didn't arrive at 250 years of democracy arguing with stupid. The secret to successful movements that have protected and expanded our civil liberties over the enemies of freedom and liberty for the past 250 years is simply knowing the difference between ignorant and stupid. - Stupid knows the facts and foregoes better judgement to willfully ignore them. - Ignorant just doesn't know the facts but has better judgement once they do. - Stupid spews lies with exuberant confidence in the passionate hot minute of its delusional existence and cowardly hides its face in shame for decades after historic defeat. - Ignorant apologizes once they see the truth and are redeemed in victory even if they do nothing but rob stupid of one more voice. Knowing the law is how you protect and wield your power. It is diluted arguing with stupid. It is strengthened liberating the ignorant - starting with yourself.

MICROBIOTICA: Happy first day of Fall! Today is also the launch of my adult coloring book series MICROBIOTICA featuring the unseen worlds of 19th century German biologist & artist Ernst Haeckel. This is book 1 in this series, and it's available on Amazon. I came across the work of Haeckel when I was doing research for the concept for this series. I was focusing on protozoa, and his radiolarians came up. I was stunned by the beauty of his Art Forms In Nature plates. The mandala-style in which he presented nature's symmetry and order resonated with me. I poured over translations of his work. Haeckel had a truly religious devotion to elevating the public's consciousness of the unseen worlds he discovered through his microscope. For him, his work was a form of worship and an act of evangelizing the idea of a universal order in all things big and small. I got as many of his radiolarian images I could find and 3D modeled them as living electron microscope "radiozoa" specimen using AI and was stunned. I used these to create drawings and then arranged them in mandalas of elements from his plates to create this coloring book homage to his masterpiece - my own small way of using art and the technology of my time to focus on the Devine in nature. I'll share more of Haeckel's amazing images soon. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the short videos I made showing the inspiration behind this book. I also hope you enjoy MICROBIOTICA: Unseen Worlds of Ernst Haeckel. It's a perfect gift for anyone who colors! amazon.com/Microbiotica-U… #ernsthaeckel #radiolaria #adultcoloringbook #coloringbook
