Hey, I am a doctor and a scientist myself :) That is a completely different story. A clinical trial has a certain definition. In the context of evaluating a treatment, it is simple: you have bunch of people with a disease, you give some of them the drug and you give the others a placebo. But in the context of a preventative measure like a vaccine, that would require vaccinating a group of people while not vaccinating another group, and then expose them to a disease like smallpox to see which group is more infected! As you can see, we cannot just expose people to diseases! That is why most clinical trials on vaccines are conducted on animals.

It is ethical, participants are made aware of the risks and sign off on them. And, yes, this is a stupid conversation to have in the first place.

I went to the doctor yesterday for a checkup I am 71. I do have a pulm history. He offered Covid, Flu, RSV. Never had one Covid vaccine before. I really like him. I told him I would think about it. My husband asked when we left are you going to take the vaccines I said heck no. I will never take another vaccine, I refuse any drug using mRNA technology. My life goal is to get off all prescription drugs. After yesterday I stopped one prescription drug. One down; two to go. That is how much trust I have lost in hospitals, some doctors, and all drug manufacturers.
