This week's work at the Sarsen Stones pocket park by Stoke Bridge. Our team carried out tree safety work, litter picking & clearance around the stones - a RIGS - Regionally Important Geological Site. Refreshed information board also installed. @GeoSuffolk @IpswichGov

Great to be involved in the Ipswich Waterfront Walk project with @suffolkcc - a nicer alternative route for the Coast Path, avoiding the Orwell Bridge. We helped volunteers from SCC & WSP to install the new info boards & finger posts. @IpswichGov @BaberghSuffolk @EastSuffolk

A great session tree planting today with regular volunteers & @suffolkwildlife Young Wardens - at Pond Hall Farm, Orwell Country Park. A belt of new scrub to screen birds feeding on the estuary shore from visitors and their dogs using the England Coast Path. @IpswichGov

Saturday's volunteer session at Alderman Canal saw the completion of the re-decking of the bridge - with our own local oak timber - this time milled from a fallen tree in Bourne Park. Half a trailer load of litter & dumped rubbish also collected, sadly! @IpswichGov #volunteers

Saturday's heathland work party at Martlesham Heath SSSI, clearing gorse to maintain open heath & acidic grassland for species including the silver-studded blue butterfly. (Aerial views, Duncan Sweeting.) Thanks to the wonderful volunteers! @IpswichGov @EastSuffolk @BC_Suffolk

This year's coppicing in Spring Wood almost finished (just before bird nesting season) - plenty of beanpoles & peasticks, hedge stakes etc made along with lovely thick dead hedges, providing cover and food for many species. @IpswichGov @BaberghSuffolk #coppicing #localwood

The first local oak planks fitted to the bridge at Alderman Canal Local Nature Reserve. Milled from a fallen oak in Bourne Park, this timber is truly local & sustainable and will outlast treated softwood, without the chemicals. Half a trailer of litter picked too! @IpswichGov

Saturday's heathland management work at Martlesham Common LNR. Clearing invasive gorse from areas of open heath to favour silver-studded blue butterflies & other heathland specialists. Gorse now grows more quickly due to warming & nutrient pollution. @EastSuffolk @IpswichGov

Today's Friends of Belstead Brook Park session, coppicing in Spring Wood. Not only essential to coppice under the pylon lines, but also for woodland species to thrive in this Ancient Woodland. The dead hedge provides cover & food for many species. @IpswichGov @BaberghSuffolk

Tuesday's heathland scrub clearing @IpswichGolf course. Vital maintenance of open heathland habitat, linking with Purdis Heath SSSI. Cold, but looked wonderful! Thanks to our volunteers for braving the cold! @igcecology1 @IpswichGov

A cold week @PurdisHeathGolf so work on winter program done whilst course closed due to frozen conditions. Gorse cutting with our staff and @GreenwaysProj with their volunteers, quite an invasive plant on the heath taking over open habitats so needs management @golfenvawards

Bridge and boardwalk repairs yesterday at Alderman Canal Local Nature Reserve. One of the bridges requiring a new deck - so closed for a while until we have milled our own local oak into the new planks (they should last longer than the treated softwood we took off!)@IpswichGov
