“This guy is an alien…” Here’s my mock draft. The analysis of the players is based on insight directly from rival coaches who have not only scouted these prospects, but also game-planned for and then faced each of them. Free story link; nytimes.com/athletic/71517…

@Willpa11 Young with High Floor and ELITE upside sounds like #2 overall pick. He is THE pick

I don’t think Arvell Reese is a low floor player. I actually think his floor is incredibly high if he’s just playing the exact same role he played last year at OSU. Him as a full time edge rusher is very much a gamble long term/bet on peak ceiling but his floor is still high as a prospect.

@NYJetsTFMedia Couple things: 1)you don’t know that he’s a “project qb” he could just simply be a really good prospect that they love at the most important position in sports 2)How many times do 2nd round picks and even first round picks bust 3)If you love the player, you take him. If not, pass

The #Jets have the potential to walk away with 4 starters in the top 44 of the draft 4 top prospects 4 potential game changers So, you can't take a project QB with one of those picks. You just can't That's where I currently stand

@LegerDouzable It’s not about number of sacks. It’s about how he impacts the defense as a whole. If you blow up the defense hunting for sacks and let up big plays it’s a negative. As you’re aware there’s much more nuance to the evaluation than “how many sacks”

How would Jets Nation feel about a combination of David Bailey, Ty Simpson, and Chris Brazzell with their first 3 picks?

@JCaporoso Don’t we still have plenty of cap space? Use it to either trade for a receiver or sign a couple vets to good 1 year deals so we’re not desperate at any position going into the draft. I do have a feeling something notable happens at receiver prior to the draft

I like the 2 WRs but I am getting anxiety with all the cornerback in the top 44 talk that is starting to pick up (not saying there isn't a world they do it but I am wary of using yet another meaningful asset at the position after paying Stephens and Wright, trading for Brownlee and drafting AZ)

Jets’ draft picks in the anticipated 2027 NFL Draft: 1st - own 1st - Colts 1st - Cowboys or Packers (whichever is higher) 2nd - own 3rd - own 4th - own 5th - own 6th - 49ers* 6th - Chiefs* 6th - Eagles* *The 6th round picks have conditions.

Trade: the New York Jets are finalizing a deal that will send QB Justin Fields to the Kansas City Chiefs, pending a physical, per ESPN sources. Other teams were interested, but Fields’ preference was to go to Kansas City.

@AFuccNY @vegasjetsfan @Willpa11 I think he’s really good already as a pure edge pass rusher with chance to be elite as well as does everything else well. Think there’s a much higher floor there than is being discussed. Those guys should get taken high too and for good reason, good players, but I prefer Reese

@Greg04451234 @vegasjetsfan @Willpa11 Key word is potential. Edge rushers get paid to get after the QB that’s the value you take at the 2nd pick. Not just a spy and a chest piece. Reese is good at a lot but not great at 1 yet. It’s a gamble I like Bailey and Bain as pure pass rushers.

@AFuccNY @vegasjetsfan @Willpa11 He’s not just a run defender. Point is he can literally do everything and does whatever the team needs him to do as well as elite potential as an edge rusher, blitzer, and spy. There’s not many of those guys around

@vegasjetsfan @Willpa11 You want a run defender at 2? Premium edge rushers that get to the QB is the value and what wins in this league. If he’s getting 12 sacks a year like Bailey with his run defense that’s different but we’re betting on that we haven’t seen it yet. 6 sacks and 0 in the last 6 games

@Willpa11 They NEED to do this. Can’t go in again where we have one injury and all of a sudden it’s not a professional room again. They need at least 1 high end draft pick, 1 rock solid vet (like Jennings or Thomas level) and one more veteran depth receiver (metchie level)

Still think the Jets need to make multiple additions at WR A high end move whether it be a 1st round WR or a meaningful higher end veteran trade (or both lol) Balance the pass game and take pressure off Garrett Wilson as well as properly slot AD Mitchell Also think adding a lower end vet or day 3 move to fill out the room would be ideal.

I am surprised he is still out there but yes generally another veteran (like him) to go with whatever work comes early in the draft is needed at WR #Jets
arejaysee@Rob_Starrk

@JCaporoso At this point would love a surprising Jennings signing. Know he’s a little crazy but we need a fuckin dawg on offense. He is one

@JCaporoso They NEED to be aggressive filling WR2 and guard. They have plenty of cap space they cannot let that go to waste. I love the offseason so far but we cannot make that mistake again of being light on WR and Oline. Spend the remaining cap space on good veterans

Soon to be supplemented with four picks in the top 44 (and likely a small handful of other veteran moves)

@NFLFrascella The Jets should in no way be tanking. They need some veterans to assist this young team in figuring out how to win games. They have 3 first round picks. They don’t need to tank. Win games. Losing breads more losing. They should be aggressively trying to improve

For those saying, "If the Jets sign Geno Smith, they are tanking for Arch Manning" Remember... it's not JUST Arch Look at this QB class: - Dante Moore - Julian Sayin - Trinidad Chambliss - LaNorris Sellers - John Mateer - Jayden Maiava - Sam Leavitt - DJ Lagway - Dylan Raiola - Nico Iamaleava There might be a number of reasons to tank...

Geno Smith “feels like the early favorite” to be the Jets QB, per @ZackBlatt

@ConnorJRogers Also, you need to get the losing stench out of the building. What do we think another horrible season does to Garret Wilson, Breece hall, etc. they need to be aggressive. Aggressive on the right types of guys, but we should be aggressively trying to improve

It's going to be extremely interesting to watch how the Jets operate this week -They have glaring holes where this FA class is strong (LB + SAF) and tons of cap space -I think they need to be extremely careful with OL, locking yourself into having to take one at 16 or 33 is something we've seen too often -Don't need to go crazy, but obviously Glenn/Mougey can't operate like 2027 is a guarantee for them. Need significant improvement this year for them to be given the chance to use all of that 2027 draft capital
Zack Rosenblatt@ZackBlatt

The Jets have a lot of cap space to work with — but I wouldn’t expect Darren Mougey to go on a spending spree. They’ll be looking for bargains. Some thoughts about the Jets and their approach ahead of free agency, plus AVT/Simpson, feeling at QB and WR, position priorities and more. FREE link: nytimes.com/athletic/70991…

@ConnorJRogers I hate the idea of not being aggressive in FA. Why spend half ass money on guys that may not be pillars of the team? Go get a couple guys that are difference makers at the top of the market, then use the draft to build the core. Bargain hunting is stupid and most times a waste

@PaulFiore You can win with good solid QB play from a guy who’s tough and smart and still improving along with a super strong supporting cast. If you can spend all the 1s this year and next improving the roster around him I’d argue that is setting us up best for success

Here is my issue with a 2nd rd pick for Mac Jones...u are extending him at that point. What is the ceiling for mac? Is he beating the top QBs in the AFC consistently? He feels like a top 15 to 20 ceiling guy and thats ok but are guys in next yrs draft higher ceilings? IMO, yes.
Bart & Carlin@BartAndCarlin

Would we trade the #Jets 2nd round pick for Mac Jones? “Yes! Would I rather pay Willis or trade for Jones? It's not even close!" @ChrisCarlin "Great processor… proven commodity! The pick is a lottery ticket, it’s a hope & a wish!" @BartScott57
