@MichaelJordaan There are other factors too. Distances between cities . High speeds . No government subsidies . Lack of national charging infrastructure - try going anywhere north of Pretoria.

@IamKumbi Historically, i don't think you can argue with that. Nowdays totally a different story but unfortunately perceptions still linger with some people, no matter what the actual facts are

Guys, can I ask; Why is the first thought that Chinese vehicles are not reliable as opposed to the German/Japan/Korean counterparts?

@BrettAtLarge That's a classic right there. I remember we used to produce them here late 90s and early 2000s.

Large and luxurious SUVs are everywhere, but they don't offer what Volvo's super seven-seater plug-in #hybrid does. We lived with the @VolvoCar_SA #XC90 T8 Recharge Bright Ultimate for a week and found out why we'd love to park one in our garage 👌 bit.ly/VolvoXC90T8Rec…

Grateful for my local mall for allowing us to use to charge our EVs for free while we shop and eat. It’s not the fastest. But a charge is a charge, is a charge. 🙌🏾😅

They here! First batch of EX30 making their way to our offices. Should be at the dealers for viewing and test drives in the next few weeks.

The first batch of Volvo's new EX30s are already on a ferry to our shores! Scheduled to launch locally in the opening quarter of 2024, the EX30 will touch down as one of the most affordable EVs on the market, with the five-strong line-up bearing a starting price of R775,900.

@OtsileJK @VolvoCar_SA Honestly for me it will never work, I enjoy putting the power down so all this electric cars gives very little but at least this one is hybrid. I still prefer 4.0 or higher

Charged the Volvo XC90 T8 Recharge overnight using a wall socket at home. Fully charged it had 65km (the most I've seen is 75km). I drove from Pretoria East to Mabopane and drove around. I still have 7km electric range left. I repeat, plug in hybrid makes perfect sense for our market.

@vnwaneri @OtsileJK @VolvoCar_SA 1. Loadshedding is not an issue, for PHEV nor full electric. Just ask anyone driving one of these. 2. Solar is only feasible if you can charge from the sun during the day, not from batteries at night. Charge at the office :)

Tomorrow is #worldevday (electric vehicle) but what does that mean in the SA context given the power issues and price ? I’ve convinced the MD of @VolvoCar_SA to answer some questions about it all. @GregMaruszewski …. I have questions 😂

@msizijames @MrsSpeedQueen @OtsileJK Very bright. EVs are here to stay and we have committed to an al lEV product line up by 2030. Especially in the premium segment I think SA will be there before 2030. With the EX30 and EX90 coming next year and then another new car every year for next few years, that's the future

@OtsileJK @msizijames @GregMaruszewski Yes, the worst, but so is rolling up to a charging station and a car has been left on charge and it's been on 100% for a while. It would be cool if cables could automatically unlock when fully charged so the next person could use it too. Especially with our small infrastructure.

@msizijames @MrsSpeedQueen For the amount of EVs in the country , probably. But the infrastructure is growing. naamsa had an announcement to that effect recently too. Also new entrants waiting for the EV market to grow so they can invest into the charging stations. Exciting times !

@msizijames @MrsSpeedQueen Firstly new tech costs more initially, although we have tried to price our latest launch , the EX30 more or less on par with an equivalent ICE car. But EV's are a lot cheaper to run , both in terms of cents per km , and future maintenance. And generally a lot more fun to drive!
