We wandered around UCLA Campus in the DARK to give the elevator pitch of our lifetime. Shoutout to @Amonahan ! A month ago Alex came to UCLA to give students capital and advice to help them with their business. We pitched Joykey, a consumer car accessories brand we're building from scratch. He gave us real advice on our website and then he became our FIRST paying customer. Since that night we've sold dozens of units of Joykey, won at multiple VC competitions, and we are NOT slowing down. Yesterday Alex retweeted us. Today? Our highest sales day ever. @GregoireMarsot @Amonahan Have you tried getting the license to do the Bruin?…i am guessing you went there and they may help you out. Sell to the bookstore and maybe a major retailer would pick you up if you extended to more schools. I may even know a guy at one of those retailers 😉

The difference isn’t intelligence. It isn’t professors. It isn’t rankings. It isn’t the logo on your hoodie. It’s culture. In some environments, building is normal. In others, optimizing for safety is normal. You don’t rise to the name of your environment. You rise to the expectations of the people around you. If the default conversation is about stability and titles, that’s what you’ll chase. If the default conversation is about creating and taking risks, that becomes your baseline. It doesn’t matter if you’re at a top ten environment, a small one, or not in one at all. Your outcome is shaped by the room you sit in every day. The real leverage in life isn’t prestige. It’s proximity. Choose your environment carefully.

The crazy thing is, this pitch got VCs interested. We still decided to stay bootstrapped, and I think you should too. We're now on track to make $10,000 very soon and it's all because we decided to master the basics.

When I inevitably achieve what I have set out to do, it will shock everyone but myself. I think through every detail. Every step. I revise it again and again. I question my answers, my beliefs, until the process breeds a kind of dissatisfaction that comes off as unhappiness to outsiders. But it isn’t unhappiness. It’s the refusal to settle for an incomplete answer. I know I am moving in the right direction. The dissatisfaction isn’t confusion, it’s refinement. So when I finally find what I’ve been searching for, I will take the moment in fully. I will enjoy it. But answers have a strange way of expanding the world around them. The more you understand, the more you see what remains unknown. The horizon moves. And when it does, I will move with it.
