@hello__caitlin How is it compared to 1 year ago? Fun to pick a short time frame when you are a politically motivated hack. Be better and less retarded.

Just made the mistake of peeking at my 401k - the market is doing so poorly that not only have my YTD contributions been essentially wiped out, I’m several thousand dollars below where I was on January 1st. Cool cool cool

Working on something ambitious is like climbing a mountain that’s covered in fog. You can't see a clear path to the top. You have to take a few steps into the unknown to be able to see the next few steps in front of you. Inevitably, sometimes you’ll end up a local maximum and have to backtrack. That’s fine, just keep moving.

Seems like “don’t need to worry about it” is something they’d teach you NOT to say in Secretary of War school.

One of the most concerning signs for me when investing in a founder is if they do not know the history of their space. You need to know who has tried this before? What approach did they take? Why did it not work? What did they do that they should not have done? What did they not do that they should have done? Bonus: Speak to the people and learn first hand from their experiences. The best founders are students of the failed history of their space.

When DJT said the war was “very complete”, a better follow-up question than “will that be this week?” would have been “does that mean Iran is close to an ‘unconditional surrender’?”

Another month of declining manufacturing jobs (-12,000). 12 month decline is 98,000. It’s time to re-evaluate the tactics we’re using to re-shore manufacturing. Source: BLS.

If a CEO of any company had the microphone during an All Hands meeting called to discuss a big acquisition or a critical new strategic development…..and that CEO diverted to talking about the design and buildout of a new conference room…management would pull him aside afterwards, grab him by the collar and tell him to focus.

@nejatian @MollySOShea Agreed. Culture is the joy you create in predictable systems of hiring, promoting, firing, and decision making. Ping pong tables and beer fridges can be artifacts of a culture (e.g one that values comradarie). But they are certainly not the components of culture.

It is incredibly sad that many CEOs treat western corporations as though they are kindergarten for adults under the guise of building "culture". I spoke with @MollySOShea about Opendoor's culture.
sourcery@sourceryy

“Taco Tuesdays is not a culture.” @nejatian says Opendoor didn’t have a culture before he became CEO: “When companies are run by managers—culture atrophies.” “Lots of people pretend culture is beer on tap.” “The best thing for culture is doing hard things together in person.”

Earlier this week, @BenSasse beautifully reminded us that it’s our legislative branch that has lost its way and relinquished its authority. Today, Justice Gorsuch delivers on the same point.

If AI agents are truly force multipliers inside companies, it will be seen in manager-to-employee span of control. Raise your hand if your company has fewer managers today than two years ago. #hr
