My new book, “Absolute Dialetheism: Hegel, Schelling, and the End of Alterity” will be published in May. Published with EUP. Check it out here: edinburghuniversitypress.com/book-absolute-… The book rediscovers the 19th century insight that human freedom is impossible without the Absolute.

Do metaphysicians know there were like 5000 attempts in recorded human history to cognize the real as it is in itself before Hegel was born? Parmenides, Plato, Plotinus, some Scholastics, Descartes, Leibniz, Wolff, etc. They all failed.

@xgabegottliebx On the other hand, the true infinite is complete while the bad infinite is incomplete. But the completeness means it does not exclude the bad infinite-the bad infinite is like a line generated from endlessly going around the circle of true infinity

Hegelians: do you think "bad" infinity is distinct or separate in kind from "true" infinity or is it a deficient or spurious infinity? Or a third thing?

@xgabegottliebx Bad infinity cannot be distinct or “other” from true infinity without undermining true infinity. If it were, it would reintroduce another opposition without end.declaring that there is no true infinity is like going around the circle of the absolute declaring there is no absolute

Some philosophical claims that at least 60% of philosophers agree about: atheism (67%), gender is social construction (63%), moral realism (62%), conceivability of zombies (61%). Which ones did the majority get right?

After some careful reflection and study, I've come to realize that the 90s were the apogee of all music.

#TheYoungIdealist Series will continue with many new upcoming episodes on the philosophers of The Kyoto School. The first of many episodes will feature the return of Dr. Fernando Wirtz (Kyoto University) discussing the life and philosophy of Tosaka Jun (1900-1945).

13 ways of looking at a contributor. 1. The late guy 2. The super late guy 3. The didn't format the essay guy 4. The no bibliography guy 5. The two spaces after the period guy 6. The I'm too busy now, pulling out guy 7. The super famous guy 8. The 2000 over the word limit guy

Edited volumes are fantastic, as they bring together such a diverse mix of talents: guy who missed the deadline; guy who significantly missed the deadline; and guy who forgot they agreed to contribute

I’m thinking of breaking up with the ‘prestigious’ philosophy journals. The paper rejections are endless and extremely wearing and take years, all meaning my work never gets out there. ‘Publish or perish’ has just become this horrid situationship for junior academics.

Every week at Hong Kong Quaker Meeting we have a time reserved for “joys and concerns.” Almost every week we hold the people—especially the children of Gaza in the Light—as they face the constant threat of brutal murder by the Israeli army, (whose weaponry is supplied by the US.)
