If you never beat your defender…
he’ll pressure you all game.
Touch the paint early.
Everything changes.

Wayne Gretzky shares the advice he gives to every young athlete.
"The commitment and the work ethic is worth it."
"My dad was a big believer that the harder you work as a kid, the more fun you're going to have as an adult. And the more fun you have as a kid, the harder you're going to work as an adult."
Read that again.
It's one of the truest things ever said about success.
Work now, play later. Or play now and work forever.
"The commitment and the passion for what you're doing is so worth it at the end of the day. Just believe each and every day - it's really, really worth it."
Commitment is a choice. It's choosing long-term growth over short-term comfort.
"I wouldn't trade my life in for anything in the world."
Outcomes and rewards require sacrifice.
The key question is: what price am I willing to pay?

Many parents tear their kids down. I saw this in sports and life so many times growing up.
A lot of negative self talk. Making them feel bad. Talking down to them.
It crushes their confidence and raises insecure kids.
Words are powerful. It takes 100 positive words to outweigh a single negative one.
Tell your kids how amazing they are. Compliment them. Build them up.
Make them believe they can do hard things.
They will win. They will be secure enough to tell losers to pound sand. They won't be manipulated later in life.
And they'll be happier.
I'm thankful every day that my parents did this. They built me up. Made me feel like a country boy from Leopold Indiana could do anything.
I haven't felt like I don't belong in any room I've ever managed to get in. Any opportunity.
I'm a lucky one.

The "Ugly" and "Sloppy" Racecar Drill: Why More Turnovers In Practice Lead to Better Decisions and Fewer Turnovers On Game Day!
When players make mistakes during practice how does it make you feel?
If you're like most coaches, when you see a long stretch of mistakes, it probably makes you feel a little bit anxious or uneasy.
Well, sometimes embracing a long stretch of mistakes can actually be a good thing. In fact, that's the mindset of Rob Brost.
And in case you don't know who he is... Coach Brost was named Coach of the Year by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2019.
So, it's probably wise to at least consider his perspective. When it comes to practice, Rob Brost does something quite interesting with his teams...
He runs an offensive drill that creates pure and utter chaos. The pace is frantic! There are turnovers left and right. And there are rushed shots all over the place.
This sloppy basketball just looks plain ugly.
So why does Rob Brost take this approach?
Because practicing at this super-charged pace makes everything slow down for players on game day.
The game will feel slower for your team. And they will make better decisions during games.
But not so much for your opponents who don't practice this way.
They're going to feel like things are out of control during the game and will make tons of turnovers because of this..
If you want your players to have this type of advantage on game day, check out this drill!
