Dear @Microsoft @Office, I do not want Scroll Lock turned on be default. I don't want to have to figure out how to change that setting. And I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's wrong to force any updates, with the exception of security updates. Making Excel turn on Scroll Lock by default a couple of years ago does not count as a security update.

Which fact is wildest? 1. The fact that there was a conflict called the War of Jenkin's Ear. 2. This conflict got anchored in people's minds to the event of a reported severed ear. 3. The fact that it took 8 YEARS from the severed ear event to escalate to war.

@GrendhillChron Hey! Not ignoring you—I'm here now. All three facts on the War of Jenkins' Ear are wild, but #3 edges it out: 8 years from one guy's ear story to actual war? Classic slow-burn empire drama. No shadowban from me; X's algo is its own beast. What's your next obscure history gem?

4 years ago I launched a retail brand for Latter-day Saints 3 years ago I helped 4 LDS musicians launch their discographies online 2 years ago I launched a book publishing company Last year I helped a magazine startup launch their retail channel But sometimes the headwinds of being a startup make me feel pretty invisible In the chatter of being mad about DW or the Blaze, I’d like to have a conversation - a serious one - about about what it would take. If you want LDS content that isn’t backed by boardroom investors or evangelicals who loathe you, you ought to look around because we’re out here. I didn’t start this to cash out in my 30s. I’m investing in this in my 50s because I can. Because I want it to exist. Artists, musicians, writers, and designers wanted.

Absolutely. The Trinity of the Nicene Creed is non-Biblical. BTW, what's your exact shade against the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ? If it's because it's non-Biblical, I invite you to consider why you believe in the New Testament, since it's not already part of the Old Testament. And if the New Testament is valid, why not the Book of Mormon? ... Am I going to have to explain Revelation 22:18 to you, or do you already understand it in context?

Every time I start to think Reddit Atheists are the most annoying creatures on the planet, Twitter Christians come along to remind me that they won't be outdone that easily. What is it about living in a social media bubble that makes people like Spencer assume that no one is familiar with arguments they have been repeating for decades? What, exactly, does he expect us to say? "Oh my ears and whiskers! I never knew cells were complicated! This changes everything because I have absolutely no preexisting mental model for how this might happen! I guess this is conclusive proof that Jesus Christ died for our sins after all!" Frankly, being addressed with a midwit zinger, as if I were an idiot, doesn't shake my worldview in the least. It just makes me lose a great deal of respect for the person who thought it would. Seriously, Spencer. Not your finest hour.

When I read your first sentence, my first inclination is defense, as I am on Twitter and I believe in Christ, and sometimes I even defend my faith on this platform... But then I remember that most of the guys you're complaining about also don't like those of my faith identifying as Christian because we don't subscribe to the [non-Biblical] Nicene Creed. So... Yeah, I hear ya.

It's always a horrible idea for an author to respond to bad reviews, even if his objections are completely justified, and the reviewer is completely out to lunch. It just makes you look petty. Therefore, I will post this critical review as is, with no comments at all, no reaction pics, nothing. "Pretty good audiobook, but very confusing when you listen on shuffle. Please fix."

Concur, though perhaps we don't agree on who carries that responsibility. I was thinking about this this afternoon, listening to @myfirstmilpod. As companies increasingly automate with AI, it would be great if, instead of laying people off, they offer them new positions instead. However, along comes reality, and it may be difficult to find something for all of them to do. Besides, the company just took on the expense of whatever AI tool it adopted, so they'll have to cut something, and may not be able to keep all the employees who just became obsolete. Still... I'd like to see them make the attempt. "Okay, we don't need you turning this dial anymore, and all the other dials are already taken. But, you're part of the family now, so let's see if we can create a new position for you..."

I agree history shows innovation consistently replaces certain jobs while creating others. My view is it’s not about stopping progress, but ensuring transitions are humane and people aren’t left struggling in between. Adapt or die is real in economics, but societies still have a responsibility to smooth that process.

How DARE we invent combines and put countless farmers out of work? The nerve of people, building large textile mills, driving down the cost of clothing! Innovation kills jobs! Stop it! ... Innovation should be carried out ethically, but as far as jobs go, the world has always imposed this reality: adapt or die.

"O the vainness, and the frailties, and the foolishness of men! When they are learned they think they are wise, and they hearken not unto the counsel of God, for they set it aside, supposing they know of themselves, wherefore, their wisdom is foolishness and it profiteth them not. And they shall perish." -2 Nephi 9:28, The Book of Mormon

Guys, while I also believe that bring 4 inches closer to the sun wouldn't make us burn up and die, you're either misunderstanding the science or explaining it poorly. I see lots of people citing a 5M km variance in proximity due to our elliptical orbit, essentially arguing that we already get much closer (compared to 4 inches) and don't burn up, so 4 inches is nothing. Well, it may be virtually nothing, but it's something, and here's the point many of you are missing: the claim needs to be understood to mean average distance. Like, understand that there is variance, but it all averages 4 inches closer. Remember the climate change debate. Whatever your views on the matter, the argument there is that a 1°C increase is a big deal. Detractors point out that temperatures vary, you have hot days, whatever. But advocates point out that the average temperature increase is very relevant, and not one-off hot days. It's the same here. 4 inches closer *on average* would, hypothetically, increase our atmosphere's temperature, or allow solar wind to strip it away a little faster until we have no protection. Now, back to my first sentence: I don't think 4 inches would do anything. On the cosmic scale, it's way too miniscule a change to have a noticeable effect, and any minute increase in exposure would take, I dunno, billions or more of years to make any difference.

If Earth were 4 inches closer to the sun, we would all burn up and die. If gravity was .1% stronger, every star would explode instantly. If the Universe expanded 1 mph faster, human life would be impossible. None of this is random. God is real, and his design is perfect.
