During our recently held State of the District program, the Newton County Board of Education proudly presented its highest honor, the Almond J. Turner Legacy Award for Leadership and Service. This award was created in memory of Almond J. Turner, former Covington Assistant Chief of Police and school board member, whose legacy of leadership and service continues to inspire our community. His life’s work reminds us that one person can make a lasting difference. The inaugural awardee, Mrs. Louise Adams, embodies that same spirit of service and leadership. Having served as a teacher, assistant principal, and school principal as well as on numerous boards and community groups, her legacy of community service has left a lasting impact on Newton County, and we are honored to recognize her contributions with this special award.

Newton County Schools is thrilled to partner with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office (@newtonsheriffga) to support our Law Enforcement career programs at Newton High School and Newton College & Career Academy. Thanks to Sheriff Ezell Brown and his team, students now have access to duty equipment like belts, handcuff pouches, and radio holders, enhancing hands-on learning experiences.
This incredible collaboration empowers students in Criminal Justice and Law & Public Safety classes to gain real-world skills and even compete in SkillsUSA events!
