In the hustle and bustle of preparations for the National Sustainable Agriculture Summit & Awards 2026, we do steal a few moments to soak in India’s extraordinary cultural traditions. One such recent discovery is “Kachaudi Gali”, a nearly 200-year-old Bhojpuri Kajri that has found a new audience through Coke Studio Bharat. What sounds like a beautiful song of longing is, in fact, a poignant tale of love, separation and quiet resistance. Set against the backdrop of the First Anglo-Burmese War (1824-26), it tells the story of a woman whose beloved has been taken away to Rangoon by the British. And yes, Kachaudi Gali is a real, narrow lane near the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, once known for its rich tradition of music, poetry and the legendary tawaif culture that nurtured Banaras’ classical arts. Heartfelt compliments to Rekha Bhardwaj, Utpal Udit and the Coke Studio Bharat team for reviving this gem and reminding us of the depth, dignity and literary richness of Bhojpuri folk traditions.
