Michael Jackson Speaks on the Black American to Africa Connection: "I am more aware of things this time (since his 1st trip to Africa in 1974); the people and how they live and their government. But for me, I'm more aware of the rhythms and the music and the people. That's what I'm really noticing more than anything. The rhythms are incredible. You can tell especially the way the children move. Even the little babies, when they hear the drums, they start to move. The rhythm, the way it affects their soul and they start to move. The same that Blacks have in America..." Ebony/Jet Magazine May 1992

The way people are rediscovering “Get On The Floor” by Michael Jackson across social media has been so satisfying to witness. This song is one of the best examples of Michael’s late-’70s disco-funk brilliance and is easily one of the greatest deep cuts in his discography.

No one understood sex appeal like he did. From the way he even moves his fingers to his facial expressions.

Dangerous is filled with religious references, moral themes, and gospel elements. The title track is even based on Proverb 5 in the bible. You can tell he went through a lot of spiritual self-discovery after leaving JW.

Between signing R&B trio Brownstone to his record label, MJJ Music, in 1995 and producing this NAACP Award-winning Black musical Sisterella in 1996, it’s safe to say Michael Jackson had such a major hand in elevating and investing in Black music, theater, and creative talent throughout the mid-’90s.
ًmya@myapriest

fun fact, michael produced a predominantly black musical play based on the tale of Cinderella, called Sisterella back in 1996, the play won 8 NAACP awards, and was nominated 12 times :) it’s a very good musical in which i think everyone should watch !!!

there were so many attempts to box black artists in at this time, grouping all their genres and attaching race to them in order to demonize it. but michael’s message was always the same

“He should’ve did this instead” “he could’ve just did that instead” “if he would’ve had this instead” Follower by the most bare minimum shit such as “if he would’ve had a black girl as his wife, all his problems would’ve went away” like no, he still would’ve had problems
