They aren’t zombies they’re mutants.

@RealEmirHan They didn't feel cheated because he turned out to be the monster. They felt annoyed that that ending tries to paint him as the monster. He is trying to save humanity. He doesn't suddenly become the monster because the murderous, cannibal zombies have a basic understanding of love

@RealEmirHan This whole thing was done absolutely perfectly in the 60s version with Vincent Price. You didn't feel cheated, but justified. It was brilliant. Why can't we pull it off with a thousand times the budget?
