Torje's (group of Jun.-Prof. Haase) lab rotation was conducted under supervision of Simona Bassoli. The goal was to synthesize different Carbon Organic Framework (COF) architectures with hexagonal, honeycomb-like structures based on linear and trigonal linker molecules.

The 5th European Conference in Metal Organic Frameworks and Porous Polymers (EuroMOF) took place from 24-27 September in Granada. Our PhD student Alena Winter participated and presented her current research. On site she got to know new people and met old friends again

#Euromof2023 was a great success and the first big conference for Alena!

Our first symposium is now history. Thanks to all speakers and guests - some from Switzerland, Austria and the UK - and organizers for three days full of exciting presentations, talks and discussions.

Our after dinner talk at the end of our second day of the symposium on "Molecules as Astrophysical Tools" was held by Dr. Silvia Spezzano. It was an interesting topic, so a few participants afterwards gathered around her for a discussion. Matching the talk topic - at sunset.

The second day of our symposium yesterday also went well. After some invited and contributed talks, our PhD students presented their research in flash talks and poster sessions. In the evening, after a dinner, there was one last talk with a lot of information and discussion.

After a great day full of science we are BEAMing with joy!

Today was the first day of our BEAM symposium. We listened to great talks and had many conversations with our guests. We are looking forward to the next two days.

Last Wednesday, our Ph.D. student Anna Luisa Upterworth won the 3MT (three minute thesis) regional competition in Halle. In three minutes, she had to present her Ph.D. thesis topic "what is mixture?" with only one slide. Congratulations on the first place!

Our second BEAM retreat took place a week ago in Weimar. There, our PhD students presented their work to the other members of BEAM - the PIs, PhD students, student talents and advisory board members - from 11 to 12 May.

Today was our monthly d-colloquium, where the Ph.D. candidates present their research and projects.

The aim of Elianes lab rotation in the Binder lab was i.a. to prepare mixtures of an amino-containing substance in a solvent mixture of hexafluoroisopropanol/H2O. In addition, she investigated the influence of the solvent mixture concentration on the spectra.

After Melissa successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis last October, she fulfilled her lifelong dream and went on an expedition to Antarctica. She sent us some pictures from her trip.

Eliane from the Sebastini group published a paper about the extension of the force field BILFF (Bio-Polymers in Ionic Liquids Force Field) to the bio-polymer cellulose. She shows how the force field extension allows to perform very long simulations of large systems.

Philipp is a member of our student talent pool and studies biochemistry. He learned i.a. IRRAS measurements, fluorescence microscopy and bromophenol blue solution preparation during his lab rotation in Prof. Hinderberger's lab. He also had fun refilling liquid nitrogen.

Katharina Sophie (group of Prof. Sebastiani) learned during her lab rotation force field simulations as a method for determining molecular dynamics using radial, angular and combined distribution functions, mean square displacement and dimer existence autocorrelation functions.

During her lab rotation, Annika (group of Prof. Weissenborn) tried i.a. the cultivation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, DNA extraction, golden gate cloning, the concentration of UPO´s and the substrate conversion by UPO´s using simple and linked Assay.
