And without a financial mentor (bc my parents are awesome ones in other aspects of life), I got off to a tough start But thankfully, I got sick of it and taught myself, found a money mentor.. And we are stacking like crazy Of everything works out, we could be free in 3-5 years - at least work optional, which would give us a lot more time with our children Keep going bro - you can be an inspiration to many 💪

@GrowthStockDad i was lucky to start at 18. It took seeing my cousin doing it to start. It had my interest in highschool but I saw nopbody around me doing it so I assumed it wasn't 'normal' to invest.

It’s never too late 💪 I started late, too DB retired early because he started taking action and created good habits

@GrowthStockDad One advantage to the VOO method is it is tax advantaged compared to a savings account or CDs. The growth compounds untaxed and for most people, the return gets taxed at 15% on cap gains and qualified dividends rather than 22% or more ordinary income on interest.

Last month, one of my neighbors asked how our rental properties were going. I told him they were running smoothly and the tenants were happy/paying on time, etc. Then I told him about how we're aggressively adding to our brokerage account that we call our Freedom Fund. Told him about $VOO as our base/work horse. He and his wife are in their early 50's. 3 kids, college age and early 20's. Fast forward to this past weekend; his wife asked me about "that V thing you told us about last month..", so I went into a little more detail about it. Husband told me he looked at the chart and was impressed w/ the returns. They mentioned having $30k sitting in an account getting a few percentage points per year. They said they're going to strongly consider putting that into $VOO They don't need the money now and they want it to grow Good call or naw? I say yes, but I'm a VOO Dad. What say you?

For me, it's only a matter of time My wife and I aren't actively trading right now (well me, she just puts her trust in me for some reason). We have a specific investing/financial goal that we're attacking right now. Once we reach that, I can see myself getting more active again with swing trades and research. So it's not a no for me - it's a probably down the road. But I certainly see you doing work and I enjoy supporting people I see putting in the work. I like subscribing to email lists, podcasts, YouTube channels, etc. to show that 💪

@Brucenotdone Hey Bruce, Yea, they said they wouldn't need to touch it for several years, so I think they'd be able to endure a big downswing, at least time-wise (who knows emotionally). They seem to be fairly well off, so I am thinking they'll pull the trigger and join the $VOO family

@GrowthStockDad Too little info. When will they want to use the $30K? Can they accept a -25% swing for a couple of years ? Does the difference between 4% and 8% on $30k make a difference to them in 15 years? Marginal tax bracket, Other diversification? A lot of factors. Me? I would go VOO

I didn't realize until about 2 years ago just how important having an emergency fund is. Having an emergency fund for emergencies and expenses (big and small) is so vital. Realizing I could put it in a HYSA and not just keep it in the bank doing little was a game changer.

@EarnLiftGrow Time being the main factor, I totally agree; very amazing & forgiving fund over time
