Two weeks ago, ZANUPF spokesman Chris Mutsvangwa convened a press conference at which he said Kuda Tagwireyi’s Central Committee co-option did not happen because he was not in the party structures. Today, ZANUPF’s Secretary for Legal Affairs contradicted Mutsvangwa’s statement, saying Tagwireyi will be confirmed as a member of the Central Committee at the next meeting. It means Emmerson Mnangagwa has overruled the party’s position, or Chinamasa has chosen to go against the party’s position, but more the former. In ZANUPF, the rule of law is whatever Mnangagwa says it is, or is it? Why would Chinamasa go against what his party spokesperson said?
