The only place you can hold a scalpel without being a surgeon, cut an umbilical cord and placenta without being an obstetrician, examine gallstones, dissect a kidney, and trace every diagnosis back to where it began under the microscope.

I watched an intraoperative frozen section from start to finish. Seeing the specimen arrive from the operating room, be rapidly processed, interpreted by the consultant, and communicated back to the surgeon for urgent decision making was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen.
