LOW BATTERY MODE: ENGAGED! My body has decided it needs a quick pit stop and some professional fine-tuning. Meaning I’ll be away from my screen for a few days, then focusing on rest and recovery. In between times, for those who haven't found the way to the changing-guard.com website, here is the schedule for next week and look forward to catching up with everyone once I'm fully recharged!

I doubt the current generation of soldiers could handle the recoil from the large calibre SLR or lug the f**ker around for long and carry the weight of 6 mags of 7.62. The legal claims for back injuries would come flying in. I can hear the young ones now… ‘Here we f**king go again’ as the old and bold brigade bang on about their beloved SLR. It seems to me they’re under the impression that human evolution has led to today’s soldier, but they are not capable of withstanding the recoil of a slightly higher calibre weapon.’ Cheeky young spunk. I can hear you crying now, because your target didn't fall when hit, due to your pissy 5.56mm round. At least a target hit by a 7.62, ends up all over the f**king range. In my opinion they should never have got rid of the SLR. They should just have updated it and modified it. Miss you, old friend. BULLIES AND BULLSHIT 2 Warning! If easily offended, I really do advise you not to read this book. clivewardauthor.com Available on amazon amazon.co.uk/Bullies-Bullsh…

Shirley, Shirley. Oh dear. This is exactly what happens when someone mounts a triumphant denunciation without the faintest idea what they’re actually looking at. If you had even a passing familiarity with British military and royal insignia, you’d know the wings on his chest are the RAF pilot’s brevet, earned through qualification as a helicopter pilot. The rest aren’t campaign medals. They’re certainly not evidence of some imagined fraud. Let’s deal with your central claim first, because this is where your hopeful mic drop rather collapses. Yes, he served. The Prince of Wales, Prince William, did more than seven and a half years of full-time military service. That included time in the British Army and later the Royal Air Force. From 2010 to 2013 he served operationally with No. 22 Squadron RAF at RAF Valley, flying the Sea King helicopter in the Search and Rescue role. Search and Rescue isn’t ceremonial. It isn’t theoretical. It isn’t decorative. Its service. During his three-year operational tour he took part in 156 call outs, resulting in 149 people being rescued or assisted. Service doesn’t require a battlefield to count as service. The armed forces do far more than charge at enemy lines. If you’d ever worn a uniform yourself, you wouldn’t need that explained. Those figures relate solely to his RAF Search and Rescue role. They don’t include his later civilian work as a pilot with the East Anglian Air Ambulance between 2015 and 2017, where he flew further emergency medical missions. Now, for those who keep fixating on the “combat zone” nonsense, he didn’t deploy there. That wasn’t an oversight. It was constitutional reality. As the direct heir and now future sovereign, he couldn’t be put in a position where capture or death in active combat would spark a national crisis. That’s not favouritism. It’s state responsibility. Did you serve, and how many lives did you fight to save? Do you have your RAF pilot’s brevet? What combat deployments did you do? Now, since we clearly need a bit of remedial education: He’s wearing Royal Air Force uniform. Above the medal ribbons sit the RAF pilot’s wings, the standard flying badge with outstretched wings, the RAF eagle, crown and RAF monogram. You don’t get that by smiling for photographers. It’s earned. The mounted ribbon bar includes: • The Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal • The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal • The Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal • The King Charles III Coronation Medal These are awarded to serving members of the armed forces and eligible Royal Household members at the time of the national events. They’re recorded, they’re documented, and they aren’t made up. The prominent star on his chest is that of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, in the rank of Knight Grand Cross. He was appointed Great Master in 2024 and installed in 2025 for its tercentenary. The Order recognises senior military officers and senior civil servants. The military badge is a Maltese cross set on an eight-pointed silver star. He’s also a Knight of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, appointed in 2008. That star is eight-pointed and bears the Garter motto. Royal protocol allows multiple stars to be worn when appropriate, though usually one is prioritised depending on the occasion. Nothing he’s wearing is improper. Nothing is unearned. Nothing is fictitious. You may object to monarchy. That’s a political opinion and you’re perfectly entitled to it. But declaring a man a fraud because you can’t tell the difference between pilot’s wings, chivalrous orders and commemorative medals doesn’t make you rebellious. It makes you uninformed. Knowledge matters, especially in subjects you choose to lecture others about. Nice try, though. 😉
