I don’t think the biggest issue is “a few bad coaches.” I think the bigger issue is good coaches leaving. The last couple years I have seen plenty of dedicated coaches leave. I don’t disagree that we have bad coaches. There are people that are bad at their jobs in every profession. Yes, a bad tescher or coach can be more detrimental to others since they work directly with kids. Most coaches are well-intentioned. I don’t think people take jobs to say I want to be bad at it. No one’s doing this for the money. But we’re seeing fewer applicants, and some programs are forced to hire people who simply haven’t had the chance to learn the sport deeply yet. So instead of just criticizing, we should ask: What systems are in place to support new coaches like we do for new teachers? I can argue we don’t support new teachers enough and student teaching should be a more in-depth process. Coaching has gotten harder with sports being more specialized. Parent expectations are higher and kids train at elite facilities with full-time experts Are you going to get that same level of expertise from a HS coach with a full-time job? Probably not. If we want better coaching, we need better support systems like mentorship, development and other coaches willing to share resources. I think there are some great facilities in baseball that could be the leaders in providing advice and guidance. I’ve seen some absolutely amazing trainers like @GudBaseball and @TorqueLab willing to talk to coaches and reach out to HS coaches. I’ve shared tryout plans, programs that I’ve spent countless hours coding with other coaches at other schools. Unfortunately, when I was a new coach many other coaches don’t reach out and help. They look at it as a competition. I guess I look at it differently. If I can help another coach that impacts kids, I will share and help. I don’t always see that happening when new coaches come into a conference or school.

Everybody needs a different area of focus with cleaning these up, and often times we find that athletes clean up the other two portions by focusing on one part that isn’t contributing as much to the delivery 💪🏼🔥

The work has one purpose: to give yourself the best chance to get outs. Every rep, every drill, every arm-care session adds up. No neutral time — better or worse. It’s January. Are you ready if your name gets called? #baseball #bullpen #offseason #pitcher #mlb
