@ZoologyDave I’m reminded, tangentially, of when Chris Clemente got a review request re. one of his own papers. He thought this was unfair as he knew all its flaws.

@RaymondBesant I don’t use Twitter often so apologies for diving in. Personally I think that “tradition” without any other justification is no excuse at all.

@JackParryJones2 Amazing creatures! I really think that any pond with abundant damselflies and dragonflies is a real highlight of UK wildlife. One of them happily sat on my hand in Belstone in 2003.

We're back! A surprisingly lively landing given the lack of wind, but everything safe ashore ready for our ninth year on Dream Island 🐦

@trevorwhiffen Dear Trevor. If you’re the Trevor Whiffin who went to the Amazon in 1968 with David Gundry... I’m currently scanning David’s slides and came across one of you. Would you like the digital image? Cheers. Jamie Gundry

I work in Manchester. My office job pays me £22,000 a year and can be done from home. The government want me to now spend £250 a month on trains and give up 40 hours a month in travel to buy a £6 sandwich from Pret everyday with whatever’s left of my disposal income. Hmm.

@GundryPhoto Just a roving strategy with light portable gear, trying to stay on the move. The river has better light in the evening but more people about. Early mornings are better for Warblers & isolation.

Flies (Diptera) are very diverse. The stalk-eyed fly Achias rothschildi is particularly striking. Each eye is further from its body than its body is long. It uses this arrangement in mating displays - the fly equivalent of deer antlers. #TaxonomyTuesday nhm.ac.uk/discover/compe…

@earlseye Great to meet you today. Some good barn owl action after you left, but you probably don’t want to know that!
