A longer personal post (more for my reflection brain than anything else). If you make it to the end - thank you 🙏❤️🤍💙 A year ago today I went for what was scheduled (because of my age, but also family hx) as a routine Colonoscopy, and a tumor was found. I was ultimately diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. After the dx I underwent surgery in May and then 6 months of Chemotherapy starting in July … Fast forward to today, my treatment and interventions appear to have been successful and (as of December) there were no signs (on scans or bloodwork) of cancer. I’m beyond blessed for the treatment and support I got (and still get!), both from medical staff and people in my life. If I can encourage or gently advocate anything from my own experience, it would be get health checks at the recommended intervals (often at earlier ages than you might expect if you have family hx of certain conditions). The standard screening age for colonoscopies is now at 45yrs old! Again, younger if you have family hx. I had no symptoms, no indications (at least that I could speak to). I never felt ill, so thankfully, and my tumor was already at Stage 3b state! James Van Der Beek passing recently and very public about his battle with Stage 3 Colon Cancer, has really driven home my treatment and outcomes, and the experience a year later might have been very different. With unreal blessings, it’s a positive story at this stage. I have my girls and some tremendously special people who have been AMAZING this past year.
