10 YEARS OF RAMONA 💙✨ Honestly, I don’t even know where to start on this. It both feels like it was just yesterday and a lifetime ago when I was recording this tape. I was in Columbia, SC at the time, recording in a shared living room of a townhouse with some of the best friends a guy could have. I didn’t know what we were making, but I did know it was special. At least to me. Rav flew cross-continent to come stay with me for a few months and make some music in person. At the time, people thought this was a little crazy. We had never met in person and only knew each other through talking online. I was working a student job and we’d record when I got home after a few bong rips pretty much every day. While he was there, we chatted with our friend Scuare via skype who really encouraged me to make a project. There was a gravity in how he expressed it, as if I was wasting my summer if I didn’t seize the opportunity and capture the lightning in the bottle of the moment. Through both his and Rav’s encouragement, I buckled down and worked on RAMONA. When I finally finished the record, a day late to my original deadline, I went upstairs to my room and put it on repeat. I listened to it while watching the sun rise from my window. I cried. I’ve never felt something like that before. It felt like I was fully whole creatively. I ugly cried while the record ended. I finally knew what summertime was. Although it was so long ago now, every time I put the record on, a deluge of memories come pouring back to me. What is summertime to you? To me, it’s what keeps me going. A deep need to feel what I felt again. To recreate that wholeness in a different way. I’ve done it a few times, but it feels like it gets harder and harder to do. Life moves so fast now. It makes you appreciate when it happens more. As I write this, I feel it again. An entire decade later, I feel the same feeling, and that’s something special.
