@drrmthomas I went 0-3 with 1 bye in my first OTB 2024 tournament, too! I went 2 W 2D 0 L in the second against lower-rated opponents. My rating was adversely affected, but I had fun, too. I am intrigued at the difference experience of time between on-line USCF play and OTB play.

Played in my first OTB tourney of the year and went 0/3 (4th round bye). I played up a section and my avg opponent rating was double mine. First thing, I had a LOT of fun! 2nd, I have some cool things to work on!! Back to the chess gym! #chesspunks #Chess

@Mrjimjones71 I will miss the sense of knowing dozens of kindred spirits world-wide with similar interests. I will also miss being able to "travel" by searching locations for photos or by searching "visit [name of place]."

@Mrjimjones71 When I was OTB provisional, my rating stayed in the same zone. So I missed the acrobatic thrills of huge rating swings. My rating progress featured less tactics and more slogging--a bit like my game.

Got results from the month-long tourn I've been playing. Final score was 3/5, apparently good enough for top u1400 trophy? Feels like more of a numbers game than an actual achievement. But was a lot of fun & great experience! Also boosted my OTB rating 140 pts. #chesspunks

@ChessLobster I am lower-rated than you. When I play Qxd5 Scandi, opponents either play unambitious d3 systems or play the gambit. Neither is that hard to face. This is one time that the fairly simple main line, followed by a squeeze on e5, always seems to me to press black the most

I am literally 400 points worse against the Scandinavian. wtf. 2350 against all other openings, 1950 against scandi. #chesspunks any recommendations against this apparently dubious opening?

FYI - my next OTB Tournament starts Friday. I'll be in Miami playing in the Turkey Bowl. Can't remember if it's the under 1400 or under 1200 section? It's the lowest section, that much I do know 🤣. Per usual I'll share my ups and downs. #chess #chesspunks

It is great that she has achieved so much and kept her chess alive. My law school (and after) chess regimen was[/is] a great deal more haphazard. :)
