Lots of people have been mystified by Victoria’s gas ban. It’s not popular, it likely won’t lower carbon emissions and anyone that uses a wok will hate them. It’s easy to understand really. Imagine you were starting a new energy business. Before you start that business, you had the power to prohibit an entire technology class that competed with you before you launch and ensure that every new customer was at least using the tech that you were spruiking. The state Government has that power. Hello state owned SEC - market manipulation on an epic scale. #springst

@mjgoodenco I don’t have the answer but I get the same effect with a trampoline on the lawn. Surely frost related.

Can anyone offer me an explanation as to why as shown in this picture the grass is growing more biomass, due to it being parked under a 70% shade cloth for the past 60 days? I thought we needed to maximise photosynthesis? Should we be aiming to have more tree cover?

@GusOBrien5 @theGRDC @GRDCNorth @MaurieStreet @bennyob It is about 11t/ha wet from memory Gus- so a significant logistic effort and cost on a farm scale. This was also pure manure- not litter which has a significant proportion of bedding (eg. sawdust, rice hulls)

@Redbank80Graeme That combination had done the job on worse bogs than that, but yes bigger is better. They seem to only have about 10-15 good pulls and they’ve had it.

@GusOBrien5 We broke a 30t ( I think it was ) and went to a 75t. 75t recommended for 300-400hp tow tractor and 100t for >400hp tow.

@agrobaz Great discussion Baz, been pondering this myself. It seems retained F2 could be still better than OP, wishing I kept some. Could grading the F2 to >2mm help the vigour and uniformity of the retained seed?

Not common practice for our region for obvious reasons, but with certain hybrid seed shortages people may be tempted to sow retained non gm 2nd yr hybrid canola. Has anyone done multiple yrs replicated yield loss analysis in hybrids?

Anyone doing 40ft Canola windrows this year? We did 40s years ago. Can do 30 or 40. Getting spooked about being to bulky and not drying down.

Cropping question? Why does Western Australia only do stubble Matt’s? Is stubble sharper over there. I get the idea. But no one does it in the east!

@samheagney Some perspective around floodplain harvesting in the northern basin…It’s illegal. The best you might get is 46 gigs . The laws and Acts were written before the cotton club could rearrange them for their benefit. Now, they want to write them according to their rules… ha

Some perspective around the nature of our northern basin rivers. In 2019 a total of 2,000ML flowed through our section of the river ALL YEAR. This year in March & April alone 245,000ML has flowed through. The same period in 2019 there was no (ZERO!!) flow

@GraemePyle2712 @stukhan @Sue0606 Graeme, The northern basin “cotton club” has been miles ahead of the southern irrigation areas for at least 25 years, and never had water wheel meters, let alone drainage canals. My new $50k aquamonix reads identical to my 25 year old Mace

It’s probably not acceptable to say this on Twitter, but… “Cotton growers in Australia have almost halved the water needed to grow one bale of cotton over the last 25 years, according to new research”. ecotextile.com/2021091428321/…
