@coachmarker I’d be interested to see how many teams that are currently D2, won D1 districts in central Ohio before the added divisions. NA with Star. Watkins back in the day. Kief had some real teams at West Central. Who am I missing?

Yeah the funniest post are “first district runner-up in program history,” or something of the like. Of course it is. There are 64 teams (24 in the district). 6/24 teams win a title. Used to be 4/41.

The lens for the tournament has to be readjusted. "District" doesn't carry the same meaning as it once did (only by word). In the 4-division format, the week of district play started with 256 teams (now 442). Regional play is similar to making a district 2 years ago.

@hausen13 @coachmarker I’m a public school coach in a state with some great catholic schools. We have advantages too. My kids grew up playing for each other and their community. Maybe they have more talent, maybe we’re more connected. I’ll take connected > talent. I bet they would too.

@coachmarker lol come on. Fams don’t send their kids to open enrollment elementary so their kids can play ball at the high school. Families map kids entire upbringing around which catholic HS they want their kid to go to. Just bc some publics draw players in doesnt mean it’s the same game

I don’t mind it. If a kid isn’t getting what they want/think they deserve at your school, then bye. Public schools recruit too…don’t get it twisted. Provide a “product” and create an environment where kids don’t want to leave. Self evaluate! Do “quality” checks on your program.

@coachmarker As long as prívate schools can recruit students (I get things in the mail from several in the Dayton area) and admit students from all over, there should be separate tournaments. There’s no accountability.

How about a 6th grader telling me he doesn’t play football because his summer baseball coach told him not to? Nothing says, “Play fall ball at 12 so I can pad my pockets” more than that Kids/Parents play as many as you can as long as you can. Nothing replaces Friday Night Lights

Saw a summer team throw a kid 95 on Thursday and 30+ on Sunday. Another kid went 85+ on Friday and 30+ on Sunday. Two different orgs. Arm will blow up this spring and HS coach will get blamed.
If you throw Spring and Summer, you should NOT pitch in Fall.

The amount of youth players getting Tommy John Surgery is insane. 57% of TJ surgeries were players 15-19 years old. Doctors say year-round baseball and early sport specialization, is a primary cause of these injuries in young athletes. Something needs to change, NO?
