My report on i24NEWS: Advance warning & Israel’s assessment of Iran’s response: Israel has been notably cautious in commenting on the U.S. operation to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, but officials make clear they were informed in advance. The issue was a central part of the Prime Minister’s security consultations last night, which extended into the early hours. An Israeli senior official tells me: The Prime Minister has held multiple discussions over the past 24 hours, Israel is prepared for all scenarios. Officials add: If Iran attacks, it will pay a heavy price. As of this afternoon, prior to the strike on the UAE, Israel’s assessment, based on two separate sources, was that the operation to reopen the strait would not lead to direct fire on Israel. Rather, Iran was expected to limit its response to the Gulf. Israeli officials further say that if Iran escalates, it provides Israel and the U.S. with strong justification to return to war. Conversely, choosing not to respond would mean effectively giving up its most significant leverage, the Strait of Hormuz. For now, Iran appears to be opting for a middle course, targeting Gulf states.

Military source: The IDF is monitoring developments and remains on high alert. We emphasize: There is no change to Home Front Command guidelines. Our air defense systems and offensive capabilities remain at a high level of readiness, unchanged since the ceasefire decision. Any changes to instructions will be updated accordingly.

Israeli Cabinet ministers were informed this morning that the meeting scheduled for this evening has been postponed to an unspecified date. The cabinet was set to discuss Hezbollah’s continued violations in Lebanon, including rocket fire and drone launches despite the ceasefire, as well as Hamas’ military buildup in Gaza and its refusal to disarm in line with President Trump’s plan. Ministers were also expected to receive an update on the status of U.S.-Iran talks amid President Trump’s threat to resume strikes.
