@AimbotAimy I used to do Windows tuning and overclocking services for $5, based on my experience and contributions, and honestly it's really easy to get high FPS on high end systems, especially when they're misconfigured. I ran most of these kids out of business, but I just kinda gave up.

@H4TIUX They are getting 1000 fps looking at a sky meanwhile people who know what they are doing are getting close to 1000 in actual pubs.

@TerminalMaeve Overclocking is literally the most intuitive and easiest thing to do if your hardware allows it. Up the voltages, up the clocks, up the temps. Find middleground where voltages = clocks = temps. Period. The fact people pay hundreds for mild CPU overclocks honestly blows my mind

@H4TIUX They absolutely get this shit from AI too. I've come across a few claiming to be overclocking gurus, and at most they will apply a very mild overclock showing a crazy 40% fps gain 😭 They are trying to scam people.

@falsacht0 @coolguyx14 More FPS does NOT equal less input latency. There is a point at which it doesn't matter. There is literally no difference between 600 and 1300 FPS when it comes to latency. And there is no noticeable difference at lower framerates either.

@H4TIUX @coolguyx14 even if this was true which it isnt, there are 1000hz monitors, your fps should always be higher than your refresh rate. higher fps will always mean less input delay. probably the only thing that you said with any merit, is that they were looking at the sky.

@coolguyx14 As of today, the maximum refresh rate on any commercial gaming monitor is 600hz, but those cost over $1000, which these kids do NOT have

@gizmo8ig Precisely. + most people don't realize how these "tweaks" expose them to other serious security vulnerabilities. You're better off running Linux, CachyOS is great for gaming, as an example, and you will get an inmediate ~20% performance gain without "tweaking" anything. For free.

@H4TIUX most of these “tweakers” are morons who have zero idea what idea of the things they’re changing do. never use a custom os, you legit gain no benefits from doing so, but you gain annoyances because they strip them of literally everything thinking that it’s “debloating”

@catslashmouse I don't think it's wrong to pay someone knowledgeable to do something for you, that's how the gig economy works. But you're also dealing with your operating system, practically the most vulnerable part of your system besides hardware, so don't trust random kids to touch it.

@H4TIUX It’s such an obvious scam concocted to take money from anyone coming from console, it’s hilarious how they get defensive when you say this. Same with “audio tweakers”. It’s all elementary level knowledge you can teach yourself in 10 minutes. People treat PCs like rocket science

@EvolveOpt From my own research and testing I can agree with you, there are highly documented terms about the NT kernel such as timers or memory management, but once you switch to Linux, the difference is ABISMAL

@EvolveOpt "Best tweaks" is the most cringiest term ever. There's no such thing as the best configuration for every single system, and also it's very hard to predict what Windows will decide to do since the kernel isn't open source like Linux

The block button is PC Tweakers most favorite button. Even if they are just scared of competition. I wont drop names, but do we really need to block our competition while we market "we have the best tweaks". either be scared cause your tweaks are shit and block everyone, or be confident and block no one. this industry is cooked trust me

@slicedpunx @T3chFalcon PSP doesn't have independent network access. It's very much different in many ways from IME. The currently available open source hardware architectures, such as RISC-V, are sadly not yet developed enough to a state where their performance can match that of a regular x86 CPU.

@T3chFalcon AMD has PSP, it functions the same way. Me is part of amt/bmc and it’s mainly intended for enterprise environments. It’s Kind of old News at this point. There’s open source hardware Available that doesn’t have any of this shit

Most people who care about privacy focus on their operating system. Linux over Windows. open source over proprietary. That's good. it's also not enough. Here's what's running below your OS on almost every Intel computer made since 2006: The Intel Management Engine is a separate processor inside your chipset running its own closed-source operating system called Minix 3. It has direct access to your RAM, storage, network, and peripherals. it runs at Ring -3 below your kernel, below your hypervisor, below everything your OS can see or control. it stays active even when your computer is powered off as long as it's plugged in. You cannot audit it. you cannot disable it through normal means. You cannot detect what it's doing from inside your OS. The EFF called it a security hazard in 2017. The Libreboot project said it has complete access to and control over your PC, including the ability to track keystrokes, capture screen images, and examine all running applications. Intel confirmed multiple vulnerabilities in ME in 2017 affecting 6th through 8th generation Core processors, Xeon, and Atom chips. Researchers demonstrated it could be used to inject rootkits remotely via the network interface. The only known method to fully disable it was discovered by Positive Technologies. They found a hidden bit in the firmware labeled 'HAP enable' part of an NSA program called High Assurance Platform. The NSA has a switch to disable Intel ME. you don't. if you want hardware that doesn't include ME: AMD processors do not have the same implementation. Purism builds laptops with ME neutralized. The Libreboot project has a list of hardware that can run without proprietary firmware. Your threat model determines how far down this rabbit hole you need to go. But you should know the rabbit hole exists.

As a Spaniard, I always find it funny when people talk about Spain as if we’re all taking daily siestas by the sea. Most of us work long hours, have relatively low salaries compared to much of Western Europe, struggle with housing costs, and spend a good part of our income just getting by. The olive oil is real. The mythical afternoon nap that explains our life expectancy? Not so much.
Earth@earthcurated

🇪🇸 spain is on track to have the world's longest life expectancy, heavily credited to the "siesta" culture and a diet loaded with olive oil and fresh seafood.

@GrumpyDegener8 @mandolinaes There isn't a single person in Spain working a normal job who's able to save up 15k in a year. Our monthly salaries don't go above €1500. We literally spend our July off rotting in a crammed bedroom we pay 800 a month for in an apartment shared with 8 people.

@mandolinaes People take time off during July and have a “Euro Summer” trip where they drop 15k and then they act like that’s “the European lifestyle” like it’s got nothing to do with the fact that you spent a bunch of money and didn’t have to go to work for two weeks. Distorted views.
