More than 90 percent of 341 surveyed students, alumni, and faculty in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences called for abolishing time caps, per a report by Harvard Academic Workers-United Auto Workers. Hugo C. Chiasson, @asonnadjoshi, and @_shuhree_ report. thecrimson.com/article/2024/1…

Harvard is alone among peer institutions in using time caps, which ties the hands of its Departments and automatically fires experienced faculty based on length of service alone. Among surveyed faculty, staff, students, and alumni, 92.1 % supported its abolition.

As one staff member wrote: "Departments routinely lose out on top candidates because the time cap is a huge barrier to hiring—this can even lead to multiple failed searched for a single position."
